Adding to Tappeti’s lineup of luxuriously handcrafted rugs and carpets, the Tappeti Designer Collective brought five renowned interior designers on board to craft unique rugs with an open brief, resulting in masterpieces with a distinctive artistic appeal
A renowned purveyor of luxury rugs and carpets, Tappeti Fine Handcrafted Rugs & Carpets has been weaving elegant and artistic narratives into textiles since its founding 18 years ago. The brand has made its mark not just for its bespoke designs, Italian heritage and meticulous craftsmanship, but also for its commitment to ethical and sustainable production at the hands of artisans, who work with natural fibres such as wool, hemp and cactus yarn.
In a one-of-a-kind initiative this year, Tappeti collaborated with five prestigious local interior designers to craft their very own statement rugs, giving the talented designers free rein to craft something representative of their artistic sensibilities. Titled the Tappeti Designer Collective, this collaboration brought together some of the most renowned names in Singapore’s design scene: Architology Interiors, EightyTwo, Elliot James Interiors, Ethereall, and Michael Fiebrich Design. With varying styles and approaches, what unites the five designers is a shared appreciation for bespoke craftsmanship and the finer decorative details.
Of course, the collection stays true to the Tappeti ethos: each rug is customisable in the scope of colour, shape, size and even fibre—a key adaptation for high-traffic areas—while retaining the designer’s artistic intent and vision. The first collaboration of its kind in Singapore, it was no easy feat to actualise; the resulting range is a testament to the skill and creativity behind each textile masterpiece.

Inspired by Chinese paper fans, Architology Interiors designed Paper Wind, a rug that embodies movement and elegance. “In approaching this rug design, I reflected on the many rugs we have used in our projects over the years and all of the things we liked about them, as well as the purpose they served,” shares Architology co-founder Terrence Quah. “What emerged was the realisation that a modern rug should evoke a sense of movement, directionality, and life. We wanted our design to appear as if it was frozen midway between changing forms or directions.”
The rug’s vaguely rectangular shape makes it suitable for most environments and easy to work into contemporary interiors, yet the incorporation of the paper fan motifs lends it another compelling layer of textural and visual interest, breaking up the straight edges. This design also draws from the various artworks and fashion creations that have been inspired by the same traditional paper fan over the years.

Capturing the meditative essence of nature and emptiness through an intricate, textured pattern resembling a zen garden, the Huit rug was designed by EightyTwo as a richly tactile yet quiet centrepiece. Through its mesmerising lines, the rug evokes calm and contemplation, as well as an appreciation of simplicity through the absence of embellishments.
“The palette of cream and taupe was carefully chosen to mimic the soft, timeless tones of sand, emphasising a connection to the earth,” shares CEO Terence Neo. “The design is a dance of lines—gentle waves, straight paths and concentric circles—that come together to create a sense of harmony and balance. It offers a moment of stillness in a busy world.”

With Magnifying Nature, Elliot James Interiors offers an interplay of organic lines, drawn from the subtle yet impactful visuals and textures found in nature. Through a fusion of weaving and embossing techniques, this rug captures the beauty of the outdoors, which served as the muse for the piece.
The design practice states a “determination to bring the tranquil beauty of our surroundings into homes”, additionally hoping that this display of how nature can inspire art and craftsmanship may serve as “a reminder of the importance of preserving and cherishing the natural world”.

Ethereall’s collaboration with Tappeti culminated in the creation of the bespoke Fragmented rugs, featuring a blend of textural finishes inspired by the firm’s affinity for raw materials such as concrete and cement. With its monochromatic palette, subtly infused industrial sensibilities and vibrant accents, this contemporary rug expresses Ethereall’s penchant for contrasts and, in the designer’s words, “balancing the raw and the refined”.
It’s an abstract piece made for the kinds of spaces the firm brings to life, sophisticated and soothing yet artistic and infused with personality, with surprising elements “breaking the monotony and creating focal points within the space”.

Impacted by his travels as well as prestigious projects completed around the world, the eponymous founder of Michael Fiebrich Design couldn’t help but be drawn to a nomadic spirit when crafting his rug for the Tappeti Designer Collective.
“The global exposure to a vibrant mosaic of natural landscapes and diverse cultural influences has enriched our creative vision and inspired our design approach,” Fiebrich tells us. The resulting rug, titled No Borders, is infused with the indigenous traditions and natural surroundings the designer encountered on his travels, which go hand in hand with Tappeti’s renowned artisanal craftsmanship.
The piece, Fiebrich continues, “embodies this rich tapestry of influences… both layered and subtle, featuring designs that evoke the intricate beauty of textiles as well as the ever-changing vistas of the natural world.”
