Oasis in the Sky is an apt name for this penthouse in Singapore designed by Studio If. Like a villa in a resort, away from the urban cacophony and bustle of people, it offers an exclusive view of Orchard Road and the city beyond, situated on the upper levels of the luxury condominium in the heart of town.

The minimalist penthouse is one of several units that Studio If was commissioned to furnish for overseas buyers who were looking for a home in Singapore. “The developer reached out to us as we have a deep understanding of the target buyers—the HNWI (High Net-Worth Individuals)—through our [experience in designing many] super penthouses, holiday villas and mega home projects with overseas clients,” shares Gwen Tan, the founder of Studio If.

With its breezy layout, inviting outdoor spaces, and mix of European and Australian-inspired elements, this semi-terraced house holds its own on the coveted outskirts of Orchard Road. Mosh Interior founder Shermaine Ong oversaw the renovation of the 30-year-old property, describing the result as “a little bit like a colonial black-and-white house and a little bit like a modern Australian home”.

The rather extensive renovation required most of the existing interiors to be torn down and then altered to suit the young couple and their newborn. The owners, originally based in Australia, approached Mosh Interior to evoke “a European feel and a laid-back, homely design” inspired by their previous dwelling.

This breezy, 4,510 sq ft abode in Singapore’s District 11 was crafted for a family of five, led by a homeowner-couple in their mid-50s. The owners desired an open, airy dwelling that would be their own personal hideaway from the stressors of modern life.

“They wanted a simple, understated style and a sunny feel, underpinned by a mid-century modern design aesthetic,” says Sarah Tham, founder and design director of Cube Associate Design, who had also worked with the owners on their previous semi-detached house over a decade ago.

Blending heritage charm with contemporary lines, the minimalist design of this four-level inter-terrace home by EightyTwo centres on creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor environments, accentuated by a striking light well and a flourishing green wall.

“Our aim was to evoke the senses and create a sanctuary that invites nature into the heart of the home,” shares the EightyTwo team. The botanical feature enhances the home’s visual appeal and cultivates a tranquil atmosphere, making it a restful haven from the bustling city outside.

As one enters Ian Ang’s penthouse unit, it is the light and views that are immediately arresting. Ample glazing invites daylight into the capacious, double-storey open living and dining area, where an angular Minotti sofa defines a cosy area for conversation. Beyond the windows, a line of landscaping offers respite to urban living, and panoramic views serve as a picturesque backdrop to the refined home.

This is where the co-founder and CEO of ergonomic gaming chair business Secretlab retreats from his bustling work life. Ang’s entrepreneurial journey, marked by a slew of business accolades, is well known: at the age of 22 in 2014, the competitive gamer left university to start Secretlab with fellow gamer Alaric Choo, who is the company’s chief strategy officer.

How does one improve upon something that’s already so luxurious? In the case of this Good Class Bungalow (GCB) located in the Holland Road precinct, Ed Ong, founder and creative director of Dwell Interior Design, undertook a richly detailed overhaul of its interior spaces so they would suit their occupants’ lifestyles better.

Occupying a 15,100 sq ft plot of land adjacent to the Green Corridor, the minimalist, art-filled GCB is home to a neurosurgeon, his gynaecologist wife and their two young adult daughters. Its interiors, which amount to a built-up area of 12,000 sq ft spread over two storeys and a basement level, had not been updated in over two decades.
