Lladró unveils its newest collection of handmade porcelain sculptures that would make perfect additions to any home
World-renowned for its intricate details and lifelike designs, Spanish porcelain brand Lladró has returned with an eye-catching line of limited-edition figurines. Along with its mainstay collection of traditional porcelain creations, Lladró is now displaying an array of pop culture icons, from Batman to Star Wars Storm Troopers. It also unveiled its newest iterations of Jaime Hayon’s iconic character, The Guest. These collections are Lladró’s foray into more contemporary designs to capture a new generation of home design enthusiasts.

With the help of Roberto Marco Andreu, Lladró’s sales director of South Asia and Iberia, guests were given a glimpse behind the scenes of Lladró’s exciting new creations. The first item in the collection is Batman, which was released commemorating the superhero’s 85th anniversary. The piece immediately catches one’s eye with its dynamism. Batman is ready to jump into action: he crouches on the gargoyles of Gotham City, his cape flowing in the air behind him. Such lifelike details are a testament to the diligence of Lladró’s artisans, including sculptor Eva Cuerva. The black matte porcelain is enhanced by gold lustre details, which spotlights the iconic Batman logo.

The collection also features characters from the Star Wars saga, including Storm Troopers, Queen Amidala, Grogu, and Ahsoka. The Storm Troopers, particularly memorable in the Star Wars universe, are engraved in glazed white porcelain with black and grey designs that gleam in the light.

Finally, guests were captivated by the rows of miniature Guests in a wide range of colours and finishes. Since its inception ten years ago, artists such as Paul Smith, Tim Biskup, and Gary Baseman have infused the standing porcelain figures with unique designs. This redefinition of collaboration pushes the boundaries of art and ownership.

This also signals a significant step forward for Lladró as they expand their portfolio of artisans to include artists outside the company. Andreu drew guests’ attention to Kzeng Jiang’s hypnotic iteration of The Guest sculpture, which has three eyes that “allow him to see the past, present and future as if he were a messenger travelling through time.”
“Understanding, appreciating, and learning from artisanship has always been a crucial part of my work, which is a mix of tradition and culture. To preserve this source of learning, it is necessary to couple it with design, advance artisan techniques, and contextualise their value in the present,” said Hayon.
In addition to these new collections, the Lladró showroom celebrates the brand’s long and extensive history of porcelain craftsmanship. Lladró displayed a boundless commitment to retaining traditional values while pushing for innovative forms, from its more traditional creations, like religious imagery, to breathtaking chandeliers and lamps.
