Take your next renovation inspiration from Terra Hill sales gallery's beautiful uplift by 2nd Edition which blends geological inspiration from Grand Canyon with elegant, modern details
It may be easier to build a project completely from the ground up to create an interior that matches the brief to a T. Homegrown firm 2nd Edition took on the challenge of creating a refreshed interior for Hoi Hup Realty’s Terra Hill sales gallery, while working with the constraints of the existing structural design and keeping the original facade intact.
The project was led by Hilary Loh, founder of the boutique design firm; she worked closely with fellow designers Ika Suprapto, Jovian Halimintara and Supalak Kuathongmak to create a “new typology” not only for the overall interior design of the sales gallery for the upcoming Terra Hill condominium, but also one of the show units within the venue.

The brief given was simple: to create a luxurious, top-of-the-line design that showcases the fine qualities of the proposed new development. To turn that open-ended brief into a beautiful reality, the designers selected a geological theme as the overarching concept, and sought to create “layer upon layer of colours, reflections and tactile textures in the right proportions,” explains Loh.

The team were also inspired by the enigmatic landscape of the Grand Canyon in Arizona in the US. “We drew inspiration from the materiality and geology of the Grand Canyon,” says Loh. This is also conveyed elegantly through the earthy colour scheme selected for the show gallery, which combines a serene mix of sandy shades and taupe hues that is brightened by the use of cream and off-white tones.

Above it All
At the entrance lobby, a curved wall with backlit wooden strips leads the eye inwards, where an impressive sight beckons. Taking loose inspiration from the natural formations of the iconic American landmark, the ceiling features an unusual pentagonal design with recessed layers; it is the pièce de résistance of this project.
This ceiling is backlit to highlight its unusual structural details while bringing a soft glow to the model of the condominium development, which comprises nine low-rise blocks that house a total of 270 apartments. The wooden flooring beneath further demarcates this significant area from the rest of the show gallery, calling attention to this grand space.

The bar area is noteworthy, with its backlit shelves and counter, and the verdant foliage that cascades along the edges of the suspended decorative lighting feature. It provides another stunning space where guests can delight in a few drinks while pondering over their property investment decisions.

Tall display shelves cleverly separate the lounge areas, providing some element of privacy for visitors and their attending property agents. The full-height windows bring plenty of daylight as well as fresh views of the greenery outdoors, creating a simple and effective backdrop for the lounge area.

In the stunning three-bedroom show unit, the geological influence is conveyed more subtly in the living area with tiered walls that loosely reference the distinct layering of sedimentary rocks. In another elegant decorative flourish, the wooden walls in the living room curve gently upwards as they reach towards the ceiling.

Other fun details in the apartment include a rug in the study that takes inspiration from the hues and forms of mossy riverbanks; in the same space, a wallcovering depicting flora and fauna enlivens the modern minimalist room which is predominantly clad in light wood.
