Organised by Tatler Homes Singapore and Young Architects League, and held at the beautiful Hafary Gallery, the Architects on the Rise soirée saw three outstanding young architects honoured for their contributions to the local residential landscape
The Architects on the Rise initiative, organised by Tatler Homes Singapore and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA)’s Young Architects League (YAL), was first announced during the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024—Singapore’s gala night. It aims to spotlight architects aged 40 and under with remarkable residential portfolios for their contributions to Singapore’s unique residential sector.
Portfolios submitted to YAL were deliberated upon by a four-person jury comprising Randy Chan (founder of Zarch Collaboratives), Guz Wilkinson (founder of Guz Architects), Wong Ker How (founding partner of Asolidplan), and Asih Jenie, Tatler Homes Singapore editor. They were judged according to aesthetic excellence, innovation in design, and functionality of up to five presented projects.

At the Hafary Gallery, esteemed guests were treated to a night of curated experiences that complemented the celebratory atmosphere.
Guests were greeted with light bites to accompany the cocktail bar’s selection of negronis, martinis, margaritas, and assorted non-alcoholic beverages. Seated and standing spots facilitated gatherings, enlivening the inviting atmosphere as guests filed in.

Asih Jenie and Chio Wen Tian, YAL chair, gave opening speeches, expounding on the initiative and the event programme. Highlights of the soirée included exquisite tipples and bites, a cocktail masterclass by Bacardi-Martini Singapore ambassador Maria Kim, and a silkscreen printing demonstration by Talking Textiles founder Deborah McKellar.
Kim, who presided over the bar, invited three volunteers to mix their negronis, martinis, and margaritas. By demonstrating the step-by-step process of each drink, she exemplified the simple precision behind each.
McKellar graced the occasion with her unique silkscreen creations, enlightening guests on the inspiration and meaning behind them and showcasing the hand-carved stencils that form the foundation of her work. Guests were then invited to try their hand at printing a silhouette of a classic teapot, complete with intricate detailing.

Then came the moment the audience had been waiting for: the announcement of the Architects on The Rise 2024 awardees.
Ar Christopher Chow of Hei Architects, Ar Nicholas Shane Oen Gomes of HYLA Architects, and Ar Zeeson Teoh Sau Wei of Red Bean Architects were honoured with trophies made from natural stone offcuts by Hafary, reflecting the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024’s theme—Green by Design, which touches on the importance of sustainability.
Each awardee also received a unique shophouse painting by McKellar, titled Emerald Eden, Chinoiserie en Bleu, and Rhythms of the River respectively.

“Recognising our members—young architects—through this extension of the Tatler Homes Design Awards, Architects on the Rise 2024 spotlights their innovative and bold approaches to residential design,” shared Chio of the occasion. “This accolade honours their fresh perspectives in creating modern living spaces, inspiring the industry to embrace new talents and set the high standards of residential architecture and interior design by our local architects.”
The night culminated in a group photo, gathering awardees and guests to capture this momentous evening in honour of uplifting the architectural industry and young talent in Singapore.
