How AMP Design Co weaves story, soul and Southeast Asian identity into every space

Pang cites industry luminaries such as Japanese architects Tadao Ando and Kengo Kuma, as well as American designer Kelly Wearstler, as her sources of inspiration. “They influence my affinity for understated luxury and the experience of space,” she says of the former two, while “Wearstler shows me how material layering and sculptural forms can evoke emotions in people living in a space.”

Interestingly, however, her biggest source of inspiration are her clients themselves: seemingly ordinary folk with a rich backstory just waiting to be tapped. “The stories of the individuals who will ultimately live in the spaces we design guide every decision we make,” she smiles.

This approach resonates not only with homeowners, but with the industry at large as well. AMP Design Co was named among Singapore’s 30 Influential Spatial and Interior Designers by the Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS), with Pang herself clinching the Woman Interior Designer of the Year 2025 accolade from the AWiCS (Association of Women in Construction & Sustainability) and SIDS in the Under 45 category.

AMP Design Co uses this information as the bedrock for its rich tapestry of Nanyang, Peranakan and other Asian influences and traditional elements, which it takes care to reinterpret with restraint. This results in spaces that feature a refined palette and elegant architectural detailing, as well as subtle hints at Eastern heritage.

“We champion a language of quiet luxury—spaces that are serene, deeply intentional, and layered with meaning,” says Pang, adding that each project is approached as “a form of cultural storytelling, where artisanal craftsmanship meets contemporary refinement to create environments that feel timeless, emotive, and intimately tailored to the lives they hold”.

The firm is currently working on a series of private residences, each with a distinct personality defined by its owner’s background. It is also developing a concept home that pushes its “fusion philosophy” further via a curated melange of heritage materials, quiet minimalism, and play of light.

Pang cites the opportunity to design a boutique hotel, showflat development, resort, fine-dining restaurant and bar with full creative autonomy as her dream project.

“From the spatial planning to the furniture selection, art curation and overall sensory experience, I would love to craft a destination that becomes a contemporary ode to the Southeast Asian identity,” she enthuses.

When asked to pick her favourite projects, Pang singles out three: an apartment in Bukit Timah that merges Eastern tradition with modern luxury; an inter-terrace house, also in Bukit Timah, that personifies modern colonial elegance; and another inter-terrace house at Elite Park Avenue that echoes the look of heritage shophouses.

The Bukit Timah apartment, dubbed “Traveller’s Dream, Oriental Enclave”, represents an immersive interpretation of Eastern elegance expressed through a contemporary lens.

It embodies the practice’s core philosophy, representing a “seamless marriage of culture, legacy, storytelling and modernity”, says Pang. An updated take on colonial charm defines the house in Bukit Timah, where the graceful proportions and nostalgic details of neoclassical and Palladian architecture are matched with a neutral palette, sleek furnishings and contemporary materials. “The result is a home that feels sophisticated, airy, and richly evocative without being overtly traditional,” says Pang.

She names the Elite Park Avenue property as a “defining project for our studio—one that challenged us to honour heritage without slipping into nostalgia”.  Subtle Peranakan influences meet clean lines and a minimalist mien in this 4,000 sq ft abode. “It taught us the power of balance: bold colour meets soft restraint; tradition meets timeless luxury,” the designer explains.

In parting, Pang offers the following advice to homeowners looking to renovate. “Understand how you truly use your space, what brings you comfort, and what kind of atmosphere feels like home,” she shares. “Invest in quality—especially in lighting, materials, and built-ins—and trust the design process. The most remarkable homes are created when clients embrace collaboration and allow creativity to unfold.”
