The much-awaited Michelin guide for Kuala Lumpur and Penang is finally here

It’s official—Kuala Lumpur and Penang’s first ever Michelin-starred restaurants were announced tonight at a star revelation ceremony held at Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The country’s first recipients of the much coveted Michelin stars are DC Restaurant and Dewakan in Kuala Lumpur as well as Restaurant au Jardin and Aunty Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery in Penang, each receiving one star.

One Michelin star is awarded to restaurants ["worth a stop"], two to restaurants that are ["worth a detour”], and three to those ["worth a special journey"].

"It is a great honour, and is always a team effort," said Su Kim Hock of Restaurant au Jardin. "All the awards go to my team, who are the ones that made it happen."

"This is a very big surprise and I am very honoured," added Madam Beh Gaik Lean of Aunty Gaik Lean's Old School Eatery.
