Welcome to Foodie Finds! This is an article series by Tatler, chronicling where and what to order according to the food-obsessed

I myself have never understood non-foodies. How can one not love flavours, spices, aromas and all the cultural nuances and memories that come with every bite? Dining is an experience meant to be savoured and is even more fun when shared with loved ones. Dining around a table means sharing, conversing, bonding and learning.

A dish can tell you so much about a person, a culture, and a country. It speaks volumes of a nation's history and is an art form on its own. Skilled hands are trained over years or are born out of pure passion and practice. Professional chefs and home cooks alike, from young stars to grandmothers, have been cooking up meals filled with emotion and have truly made us foodies, happy.

Through Foodie Finds, we ask our epicurean friends to share their favourites. In this feature, we tackle takeout and delivery. Hear what restaurateur Juano Gutierrez, co-founder of Holy Smokes, has to say. Take a look at some of his go-to shops for takeout.

1. Fook Ya

This new Poblacion hotspot transports us to Hong Kong. Really good Hk grub like roast duck, soy chicken and fatty charsiu. I heard their roast goose is really good but haven’t had the chance to order.

2. Tim Ho Wan

@timhowanph

Chinese food will always be up there with Japanese and Spanish food, in my book. Since this pandemic has taken away the privilege of frequently dining in at our favourite restaurants, we have resorted to Chinese food delivery. It was a great thing for us that Tim Ho Wan was there, and always reliable. I always get the wasabi prawn dumpling, prawn paste chicken wings, shrimp taro puff, fried bean curd roll, and dumplings in spicy sauce.

3. Crosta Pizza

@crostapizzeria

My daughter is a pizza-eating-monster and her favourite is Shakey’s cheese pizza. But when I also feel like having a good pizza, I get mine at Crosta Pizza. My daughter’s default order would be “cheesy AF”. I’m a big fan of their Detroit Supreme pizzas too. The crust reminds me of good sourdough or focaccia.

4. Krapow

I’m a big fan of bold Asian flavours (especially after a long night of drinks with friends). Krapow is easily the best Thai restaurant In Manila in my opinion. I love their khao soi, prawn noodles, prawn fried rice and massaman curry.

5. NKD Bakery

I’m really a bread guy, to be honest, and NKD Bakery has been an integral part of my diet. Their schiaciatta bread is a must. One of the best pieces of bread I’ve had in Manila. The texture is just wonderful. It’s crusty, but really soft, moist and chewy in the middle too. It’s perfect for your charcuterie spreads, and pairs well with really good burrata cheese. But, nothing beats slathering on some French butter from Dough and Grocer.
