Welcome to Foodie Finds! This is an article series by Tatler, chronicling where and what to order according to the food-obsessed

I myself have never understood non-foodies. How can one not love flavours, spices, aromas and all the cultural nuances and memories that come with every bite? Dining is an experience meant to be savoured and is even more fun when shared with loved ones. Dining around a table means sharing, conversing, bonding and learning.

A dish can tell you so much about a person, a culture, and a country. It speaks volumes of a nation's history and is an art form on its own. Skilled hands are trained over years or are born out of pure passion and practice. Professional chefs and home cooks alike, from young stars to grandmothers, have been cooking up meals filled with emotion and have truly made us foodies, happy.

Through Foodie Finds, we ask our epicurean friends to share their favourites. In this feature, we tackle takeout and delivery. Hear what executive sous chef of Gallery by Chele, co-founder of Deli by Chele, and culinary consultant at Adviche, Carlos Villaflor has to say. Take a look at some of his go-to brands for takeout.

1. Taste MNL

@taste.mnl.ph

Taste MNL has a variety of options from different cuts of meat, portion sizes, and US and Japanese Wagyu. They offer same-day delivery which comes in handy for instant cravings and gatherings. I like that they have very fast and convenient customer service. The meats are always consistent in terms of flavour and texture in my opinion. I love cooking their Wagyu steak cubes, Wagyu sukiyaki, and Japanese and US rib eye.

2. The Good Steward

I love how the cookies are packaged; they come to you vacuum packed. This traces back to the background of The Good Steward's founder who used to be a flight attendant and was inspired to apply the values of food preservation through vacuum sealing to the business. It really preserves flavour and most importantly the texture. This way cookies will always stay chewy and moist, just how I like it. We always get the box of assorted cookies because everything tastes good!

3. Sarsa

@sarsakitchen

Everything is awesome and flavourful at Sarsa. This is my comfort food. It greatly represents dishes across the Philippines. Chef JP really put his heart and soul into creating the dishes and this is something we should be proud of as Filipinos. There are so many amazing dishes on the menu. But what I always order is the isaw and isol, because I love street food. Sarsa's chicken inasal, it’s always juicy and very tasty. Sizzling kansi, is one dish you can never go wrong with either.

4. Ricksha Streetside Tandoor

@rickshastreetsidetandoor

I really enjoy eating Indian food, and nothing gets more authentic than Ricksha. Everything is done fresh, the flavours are consistent, and it has a perfect balance of spices for my palate. It’s a roller coaster ride of flavours in every dish. All your senses will be awakened after each bite. To Cyril Addison, job well done! The samosas chaat are very delicious, it’s hard to resist...and you shouldn’t. Their pani puri is an explosion of flavours in your mouth. You should also try their Gun Powder and Egg Dosa–it is to die for. Lastly, you shouldn’t miss the goat biryani, which is packed with lots of amazing layers and will surely take you to another dimension.

5. Costumbre

@costumbre.manila

I really have a thing for sweets. Costumbre's use of local ingredients and ability to elevate them through pastries that can be easily enjoyed and are super delicious is great. The cookies are consistently yummy and moist. I normally order the dark chocolate cookie. It's divine: very chewy and chunky in every bite. The pavlova has been my favourite item from them. Their use of local fruits and nuts is amazing and I really like how well balanced it is—not too sweet. You won't be able to stop eating after the first bite!
