The Tatler Dining team tries out one of the gourmet pizza delivery service’s pizza and wine bundles to see if the pizzas live up to their hype
It’s a rare find: a pizza delivery service with gourmet pizzas made by a true pizza maven. But what truly takes Casa Vostra to the next level is the delivery-only pizza kitchen’s meal bundles, which pair the ready-to-heat fine pizzas with specially curated wines. Helmed by acclaimed Italian chef Antonio Miscellaneo, the brains behind La Bottega and the now-defunct popular private dining concept Casa Nostra, the chef’s latest venture has made it possible to indulge in expertly crafted pizzas and Italian wines in the comfort of one’s own home. While it sounds like the ideal choice for both large parties and intimate gatherings, the real question is: is it worth the rave reviews? We ordered a bundle to find out.

The bundle

There are three pizza and wine bundles to choose from—the l’avorio, featuring three new pizza flavours paired with white wine; the il rosso, comprising three San Marzano tomato-based pizzas paired with red wine; and the il classico, made up of three classic pizza flavours and a choice of red or white wine. We ended up choosing the il classico, believing the ability to execute the simplest and most classic pizza flavours a true test of Casa Vostra’s mettle.
The bundle included a quatro formaggi (four cheese) pizza starring mozzarella, taleggio, gorgonzola and sprinkled parmesan chips; a prosciutto e funghi (cured ham and mushroom) pizza with a creamy fior di latte base; and a classic margherita with fresh basil. We chose the white wine, and both the pizzas and wine came to us perfectly chilled. The pizzas were placed in thoughtfully-crafted boxes, with pizzas and toppings elegantly packed in cardboard boxes that came with individualised instructions. Off to a good start—although we did find the instructions a little unclear. Each instruction sheet reads that the pizzas should go into a 250-degree Celsius oven for 3–4 minutes, which differs from the 5–6 minutes stated on the website. We tried both and found that the longer bake-time produced a crispier crust that was more pleasant to eat.

The pizzas

We started with the prosciutto e funghi pizza, which came with the prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano shavings packaged separately. It also came with a parmesan fondue to drizzle over the top, resulting in a wonderfully creamy and rich flavour profile. The prosciutto added a touch of saltiness to the pizza, and its umami was amplified by the plump mushrooms.
We tried the quattro formaggi next and it turned out to be one of the best that I have ever had. Miscellaneo does not shy away from stronger flavours, which is why you'll find taleggio and gorgonzola scattered throughout the pizza alongside milder cheeses like mozzarella. The tiny melted nuggets of gorgonzola were by far my favourite thing about this pizza. And instead of having another melty cheese as the fourth cheese, crunchy parmesan chips are sprinkled across the pizza, adding a lovely textural contrast.

We saved the most classic pizza for last—the margherita, made simply with a San Marzano tomato base, melted fior di latte cheese, extra virgin olive oil and a generous showering of basil. Although there was nothing too special about Casa Vostra’s rendition, the traditional dish was respectfully made by sticking to the time-honoured Italian tradition of an uncomplicated tomato and cheese combination. The separately packaged basil was fresh and pristine, adding a welcome touch of fragrance and lightness to the flavourful pizza.
Made with Italian flour and fermented for 48 hours, Casa Vostra’s thick, pillowy soft Neapolitan pizza crust was aromatic and carried a gentle tang. To avoid an overly doughy crust, make sure to let your pizzas come to room temperature before putting them in the oven, or simply bake them for longer.

The wine

A bottle of wine always adds sparkle to gatherings, which is why I was eager to try the wine, a Canoso Fonte Soave Classico 2021. This white wine made with Garganega grapes picked from the Veneto region in northeast Italy contains citrus notes that hit the nose early, before blossoming smoothly on the palate with hints of minerality, smoke and honey.
It’s the type of wine that’s better enjoyed with food than on its own and even stands up to the very dominant flavours of gorgonzola and the taleggio. And while I found it complementary to the prosciutto, I might have been better persuaded by a red for the margherita.
The verdict
Are the Casa Vostra pizza and wine bundles worth the hype? The short answer is yes. The pizzas are excellently rendered with quality results in the home kitchen. If you are a pizza traditionalist, Casa Vostra’s classic pizzas are one of the best you can have delivered in Singapore. The wine was good, but look in your own collection and you may find more suitable ones to enjoy your pizzas with. Nevertheless, if you’re looking to impress your guests without having to rack your brain for a bottle of wine, Casa Vostra should have you covered.
