Our island's dining scene is bursting with new restaurant additions this month, and there is something that caters to every palate. If you have a penchant for European fare, head to LouLou French Cuisine & Wine Bar and indulge in comforting French fare. For flavours closer to home, visit Chez Kai for modern-Chinese fare with French influences; or take a trip to Um Yong Baek for traditional Korean pork and rice soup.

1. Shikar

Chef Surjan Singh, also known as chef Jolly, helms this newest Indian restaurant, located at Maxwell Reserve. Here, he presents a menu that focuses on traditional Indian fare with a modern twist. Prepare to indulge in hearty dishes like the charred cream chicken tikka, marinated in a fragrant spice mix of royal cumin, green cardamon and cream until tender and juicy. It’s then grilled on a charcoal tandoor until smoky and aromatic. Vegetarian friendly dishes are also available, like the roasted sweet potato goats cheese tikki chaat, complete with crisp kale chips. Book here.

2. Um Yong Baek

Joining the myriad of Korean restaurants in Telok Ayer is Um Yong Baek, a Korean restaurant specialising in dwaeji-gukbap. Translating to Korean pork and rice soup, this hearty dish comprises a mix of rice, pork collar, pork cheek and pork stomach bathed in a clear pork broth that has been boiled for over eight hours. On top of gukbap (hot soup with rice), indulge in other hearty plates, like suyuk, Korean pork belly slices cooked in a pressure cooker until meltingly tender.

3. Aspa

Offering flavours of traditional Spanish food with Asian influences is Aspa, a casual neighbourhood restaurant located in Pasir Ris. Look forward to a range of traditional Spanish fare created with Asian ingredients. Standouts include the succulent beef short ribs slow cooked for 48 hours until fork-tender and glazed in teriyaki sauce; and the paella pollo chorizo. 4. LouLou French Cuisine & Wine Bar

The latest addition to the Keong Saik neighbourhood is LouLou French Cuisine & Wine Bar, a new dining concept that boasts authentic and comforting French fare. Here, the culinary team takes diners on a gastronomic journey through innovative dishes that showcase South of France and Mediterranean cuisines.
 
Kick off the experience with the sobrasada croquettes. These are cooked with cured ground pork sausages and fragrant spices, topped with fresh parmesan. Then, moving on to the meal proper, you have mains like monkfish gorgeously roasted in aromatic chorizo butter and served atop ratatouille. Book here

5. Chez Kai

Private dining chef Yeo Kai Siang has opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant along Geylang. Helmed by Yeo himself, the restaurant serves up modern-Chinese fare with French fine-dining techniques. While its tasting menu changes seasonally, anticipate delectable plates like 鲜 (fresh). A loose interpretation of a surf & turf, this course comprises milk-fed lamb sous vide for over six hours and baked until crispy. It’s finished with an aromatic smoked snapper-infused lamb jus.
