The MasterChef India judge offers a delectable line-up of regional Indian fare
Celebrated Indian chef, Surjan Singh, also known as chef Jolly, is bringing the flavours of India to Singapore with his latest dining concept, GupShup. The latest addition to the newly revamped Serangoon House puts the spotlight on regional Indian street food.
Translated to mean ‘conversations’, GupShup was inspired by Indian countryside women who would come together in the evenings to catch up with one another and roll bread for their family dinner. Singh shares: “The restaurant is a spot to slip away from life and into blissful moments with friends and loved ones”.
The vibrant and blissful atmosphere is reflected in the beautifully designed interior that sees comfortable velvet banquet seats and wallpaper featuring scenes from colonial India.

On the menu, find hearty street fare from various Indian regions, including Delhi, Bombay, Punjab and central India. There is something for everyone—if you’re looking for something familiar, go for the aromatic tandoori grilled Delhi butter chicken; or the pani poori that comes filled with potatoes and chickpeas. It’s accompanied by a sweet and tangy tamarind shot, and a spicy mint shot.
Those with a penchant for something rich and spicy may opt for the tawa chicken masala, a flavourful dish of succulent chicken chunks marinated and roasted in tandoori oven until they’re aromatic. These chunks sit atop fluffy and crisp paratha for additional texture.

Of course, the best way to end the meal is with a sweet treat—try the jamun, a traditional Indian dessert of milk-cake doughnuts soaked in rose-flavoured sugar. Singh’s interpretation of the treat is decorated with crunchy pistachios. Balance the sweet flavours with a comforting pot of masala tea.
Whether you are looking to savour hearty Indian fare or to catch up with loved ones, GupShup is the place to be.
