Opening in June, the modern Korean restaurant will be part of the US$295 million Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore in Jurong
When two of South Korea’s heavyweights join forces to announce an exciting collaboration that combines cutting-edge technology and food, everyone takes notice. Na Oh, which translates to “moving from inside out” in Korean, is set to open its doors this June. But it will not be just another modern Korean restaurant, as this highly anticipated collaboration between celebrated chef Corey Lee of the three-Michelin-starred restaurant Benu in San Francisco and the folks behind Hyundai enhances the offerings at the Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS)—a cultural hub for Korean cuisine, craft and design.

Na Oh, located in the Korean motoring giant’s US$295 million research and production facility, marks Lee’s inaugural foray into Southeast Asia. Adding to Singapore’s dynamic scene, the San Francisco-based South Korean chef teases an exploration of traditional Korean cuisine calibrated for the modern palate. “I hope to bring a fresh and new option for Korean cuisine to Singapore, a country renowned for its food lovers,” shares Lee, via a press statement. “While Na Oh is a casual family restaurant, we will be serving the same quality products and technical preparations usually reserved for fine dining.”

To bring Lee’s unique vision to life, the brains behind HMGICS have tapped into robots and automation. The two-storey vertical smart farm, which will be open to the public, is the first of its kind globally. It claims to produce over 30 kilograms of fresh produce daily that can be sourced in-house. “It has been inspiring to bring together the innovation that Hyundai offers at HMGICS with traditional cooking techniques that we have reimagined for the menu,” Lee adds, doubling down on the unique hospitality experience that goes beyond a conventional automotive production facility.
