Motokichi Yukimura, the viral Japanese omurice chef of Kichi Kichi Omurice, partners with Tsukimi Hamburg for an exclusive menu launch and meet-and-greet

Who knew omurice could have such pull? Certainly not Motokichi Yukimura, when he first opened in 1978. Before gaining overnight fame, Kichi Kichi Omurice, a humble 14-seater restaurant in Kyoto, was known among locals for its whimsical presentation of a Japanese-Western fusion dish. Now, after captivating the internet in recent years, Yukimura is internationally known for his eccentric onscreen personality and his passionate showcase of the impossibly fluffy tornado omelette technique and a viscous ladle of beef demi-glace to finish.

Having amassed a legion of followers and garnering views in the millions, the eccentric red-bereted maestro looks to leave his mark in sunny Singapore. From July 11 to 12, Tsukimi Hamburg in Jurong Point will transform into Kichi Kichi Omurice. Just like in Kyoto, a fortunate few can witness Yukimura’s live demonstration, where he prepares and serves up his signature omurice. To win this coveted seat, diners at any &JOY Japanese Food Street outlet who spend a minimum of $20 between June 3 to 30, will receive a ticket to this lucky draw; only 20 lucky winners will be selected for each session.

The alternative, which bears a slight more permanence, will take place on July 10 and beyond. Yukimura collaborates with Tsukimi Hamburg for a permanent menu addition that promises to elevate the city’s casual Japanese dining landscape. The anticipated union debuts two new dishes: the Kichi Kichi Hamburg Omurice, featuring golden demiglace edamame fried rice, crowned with spiral-shaped omelette and a juicy hamburg steak; and the signature Kichi Kichi Omurice, a purist’s take on the viral signature, one that continues to drive food pilgrims to queue for hours in Kyoto’s narrow alleyways.
