Of the many reasons to get dressed up for a night out, live music is one of the most tempting. These are some of our top picks for a memorable night out with music at the center of the experience

There is something special about a dimly lit room, a slightly elevated stage, and the experience of feeling live music touch your heart. Within the Klang Valley, we’ve been lucky enough to have a great list of venues that provide stages to our incredible scene of musicians.

Plan out your whole evening from dinner to the show, to after show drinks—or supper! Tap your toes, bop your head, and snap your fingers to the music with these options for a special night out with a certain magic that only jazz bars can offer.

The Hungry Tapir Bangsar

Perhaps a vegan restaurant might not be the top choice for your romantic jazz evenings, but The Hungry Tapir in Bangsar brings on the vibes from Wednesday evenings onwards until Sunday with their schedule of live acts. We’d recommend ordering a couple of their cocktails, maybe their satay if you’re feeling peckish, and enjoy the show.

Jao Tim

The long, narrow building that Jao Tim sits within provides a rustic elegance with live music to pull it all together. The high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and the window panels that bring light in from Petaling Street as the backdrop to the performers makes it feel like a hidden speakeasy full of passion for music. Newly renovated, the best time to make your visit is now.

Brasserie Alma

The French brasserie helmed by chef Andy Choy brings the world of classical French cuisine and melds it with the world of jazz. Seemingly a normal restaurant as your first step in, push past the red velvet curtains to unveil a room that brings the French cabaret experience to life within the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
