In the spirit of International Women’s Day, some of our favourite women in the F&B industry share their experiences in juggling work and being a mum
Being a woman is hard. Being a mum in the food and beverage industry—which is known for its long hours, competitiveness, and gender bias—is even more difficult.
Hence, we tip our hats to working mums who are able to juggle work and their family life with grace and dignity. And, in honour of International Women’s Day 2023, on March 8, we talk to six female professionals as they share their experiences navigating through this gruelling yet fulfilling industry.

Nuria Gibert
Director of Restaurant Gaig
“I grew up in a family who have been restaurateurs since before I was born, so I would say I was in the F&B industry all my life. I think one of the biggest challenges for me was opening Restaurant Gaig in Singapore. Setting up a restaurant in a foreign country was very tough. I had to handle almost everything on my own while overcoming cultural differences, and supply and manpower challenges. Thinking back, it was a hard but great learning experience for me.
I was a child to parents working in the F&B industry and now I am a mother working in same industry. I learnt that I must be very organised to run the restaurant business while being a mum so that I can spend quality time with my son. My husband and I try to create happy moments with our little one; to be present and focus on him no matter how little time we have. Now as a working mother in the F&B business, I was very lucky to be surrounded by people who help us and love my son very much, even though my family is not here with us.
I balance my personal and work life by leaving all the problems at work as much as I can. As I’ve said, when I’m spending time with my child, unless there is a big emergency, I’d like to focus on him.”
