Hidden deep within cavernous limestone cliffs is Jeff’s Cellar, Ipoh’s answer to haute cuisine
It is no surprise that Ipoh, known best as an epicurean’s paradise, is home to some of the peninsula’s best dishes. What is astonishing, however, is that beneath the region’s millenia-old sprawling limestone caves lies Jeff’s Cellar—a stunning fine-dining destination. Nestled in a 260-million-year-old cave, Jeff’s Cellar goes above and beyond when it comes to dinner and a view with natural drama serving as the perfect backdrop to its equally awe-inspiring cuisine.
Helmed by chef Lee Choon Boon who first joined The Banjaran Hot Springs as executive chef in 2016, menus at Jeff’s Cellar take two distinct forms. While both are 10-course degustation menus, the Prelude is driven by Western influences and the Whimsical finds inspiration a little closer to home, in Asian cuisine.

Signature dishes here let pristine ingredients shine with its Canadian lobster dish comprising perfectly grilled lobster glazed with an intense and complex house-made lobster paste before finishing touches of fresh cress and edible flowers from the agricultural haven of Cameron Highlands and the establishment’s own garden.
Just as spectacular is its A5 Miyazaki striploin, seasoned with Sarawak black pepper and served with a rich Bordelaise sauce.

Even its bread course demonstrates what a fine-tuned operation Jeff’s Cellar runs. The restaurant’s sourdough is leavened by a bread starter the establishment has kept fed for half a decade, ensuring a perfect contrast between pillowy, tangy interior and crisp crust.
To make the dish even more of a standout, it is then served with Bario salt from Sarawak and Tuscan olive oil.

There is much to explore in this cave, including the restaurant’s wine cellar. Home to an exceptional collection of rare vintages, guests are able to request exclusive tours of the cellar, giving dinner and a show a whole new meaning.
