If you are looking for a true getaway without actually getting away, a meal at Eco Gourmet will certainly do the trick.

The restaurant inhabits an old house nestled in the lush foliage of Labrador Park. At the front of the restaurant, you will find a laid-back bar with plush sofas. While at the back of the restaurant, you will discover a balcony-like dining room over looking beautiful greenery.

The restaurant makes the most out of the inherent beauty of the surroundings of Labrador Park by using natural materials and textures in the interiors.  The result is what the restaurant calls “rustic-luxe”, and to a guest the restaurant feels like a resort in Thailand or perhaps even Bali. The design is down-to-earth and back-to-nature, but also very sophsticated.

Food-wise, they serve international cuisine with subtle Thai and Japanese influences. Top sellers on the menu have been the goat’s cheese mousse and the cauliflower veloute.

However a great time to try the restaurant, if you haven’t already, is for brunch, which is offered only on weekends and public holidays. They serve some of the usual brunch and lunch suspects here, which are done simply. On the menu, you’ll find dishes like smoked salmon eggs benedict, French toast, spaghetti with tomato and prawns and assorted berries salad. The bar also serves up some great fresh juices and lassi.

The food is uncomplicated and decent. But the main pull of visiting this eatery is it’s dining experience. The atmosphere is serene. And if you have been in Singapore for a while, you know that finding serenity in the city is a rare find.
