We dive into Arden Cho’s food habits during her trip to Malaysia
Arden Cho loves rice — so much so that she’d happily eat it every day, in any form, whether in nasi goreng or with mapo tofu. In an interview during her time in Kuala Lumpur, the actress and voice of Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters shares her favourite meals on set, her go-to snacks for recording food sounds (yes—the sound effects in animated films are real!) and her obsession with Korean BBQ. Whether in LA or Seoul, Cho’s food picks are full of spice, soul, and comforting familiarity.

How are eating sounds made when filming animated scenes?
For KPop demon hunters in particular, we made a lot of slurping noises, and they were all natural! The hardest one was when Rumi eats the kimbap—it was really hard to make those noises. We crunch a lot of food and eat a lot of snacks.
What is one meal you could eat everyday?
Literally anything with rice!
What is your favourite soda flavour?
I don’t drink a lot of soda, but maybe Coca-Cola.
What is your go-to meal on set?
When I am in Korea, I love eating kimbap on set, which is my favorite snack. In America, on Partner Track, I was very lucky—they were very accommodating and we had a lot of rice.
What is your favourite rice dish?
I really like nasi goreng! Either that or something with spice—kimchi fried rice, galbi, mapo tofu, or sausages with eggs and rice.
Most unusual ingredient you’ve tried?
I generally like everything. Maybe the one thing I don’t like as much is Korean intestines.
One restaurant you would go back to again and again?
Jaeyeondo Sogeumppang, known for their salt bread, in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. In LA, right now, Kkondae, which serves one of the best grilled pork. And I love fried chicken at BBQ Chicken and Kyo Chon!

What would be your last meal?
If I had to choose one, samgyeopsal-gui and kimchi jiggae. And you also can’t beat a really good steak.
