The Glenfiddich Time Re:Imagined collection is truly a masterpiece, from its precious liquid to the finely crafted decanters

Glenfiddich’s Time Re:Imagined collection transcends mere liquid to become a narrative on the nature of time, akin to masterful art.

The collection’s visual allure, with its stunning packaging and decanters, matches its narrative depth. Each bottle, designed with an artistic eye, transforms the whiskies into objets d’art as the intricate, bespoke decanters resemble sculptural pieces, inviting admiration.

At the heart of the series is a rich tapestry of storytelling. Each expression—the Glenfiddich 30 Year Old Suspended Time, Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Cumulative Time, and Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Simultaneous Time—delves into the essence of time. Glenfiddich’s malt masters, who craft the whiskies alongside the designers of the three decanters, put in as much attention to detail and skill as the renowned painters of old, layering strokes that reflect time’s intricate dance in creating these masterpieces.

Steeped in history and tradition, the collection is a tribute to Glenfiddich’s storied past and expertise. The distillers’ dedication over decades parallels the legacy of artistic movements that have shaped cultural heritage. Given that the exclusive bottlings contain precious single malts aged for 30, 40, and 50 years, we liken them to three exceptional paintings by renowned artists from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, respectively—drawing parallels between masters of malt and masters of art.

The Glenfiddich 30 Year Old Suspended Time

The Glenfiddich 30 Year Old Suspended Time captures a moment frozen in amber. In fact, the sleek outer packaging’s amazing design makes it seem as though the whisky decanter itself is suspended in the air. This liquid speaks to the precise instant of bottling, preserving decades of maturation in a singular, unchanging essence. Like Picasso’s Guernica, the liquor freezes pivotal moments and evokes deep emotions through meticulous craftsmanship. The whisky symbolises patience and time, while the artwork represents the horrors of war and resilience.

Meanwhile, the Glenfiddich 40 Year Old Cumulative Time embodies layered complexity, akin to an artist adding depth with each brush stroke. This mirrors Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, both embodying layered complexity through meticulous processes—decades of whisky ageing and Hopper’s detailed, contemplative painting. Each evokes introspection, with the whisky’s rich, evolving flavours paralleling the painting’s depiction of urban isolation. Both masterpieces reflect accumulated experiences over time: the liquid’s gradual maturation and the painting’s depth of emotion, capturing time’s essence and the human condition. The 40 Year Old is packaged in jesmonite, which gives it a stone-like look and texture, imbuing grandeur to the decanter.

Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Simultaneous Time

The rarest of them all, with a limited first release of 220 decanters globally, the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Simultaneous Time can be likened to Jackson Pollock’s One: Number 31. The two exemplify the convergence of time and artistry through intricate processes—half a century of whisky maturation and Pollock’s dynamic drip painting technique. Each conjures awe and complexity, with the whisky’s rich flavours and elegant design resembling the painting’s energetic patterns. Both are rich in symbolism, capturing the fusion of past, present, and future in a single, profound expression of craftsmanship.

The 50 Year Old’s elegant decanter, designed by Manuel Jimenez Garcia, metaphorically reflects time’s fluid yet enduring nature. An artist in his own right, Garcia digitally mapped out 50 years of climatic data—humidity, temperature and air pressure—from the Dufftown area where the whisky was distilled and aged, to craft the bespoke 3D cylindrical sculpture that’s as distinct as the whisky itself.
