Cover Royal Brackla—good enough for kings, and good enough for Asia's Most Stylish

For Tatler Asia’s Most Stylish held in The Chow Kit, Royal Brackla elevates one of Malaysia’s most important nights in fashion

The gathering of Malaysia’s most influential figures in fashion is not a small feat, and as it is in fashion, every detail must be a study in sophistication. Within the chic, heritage-rich Chow Kit Hotel, the evening celebrated the best of the best within the world of fashion.

Asia’s Most Stylish is a celebration of trailblazers in the fashion industry. More than just donning a stylish outfit, it’s a statement that extends beyond the world of fashion. Demanding a partner of equal pedigree, it was only right to have Royal Brackla as our official beverage partner of the evening.

Royal Brackla, the Highland Single Malt, which some may know as ‘The King’s Own Whisky’, curated a special cocktail menu to pair with the dining experience created by The Chow Kit team. The nickname for the whisky is tied to the brand’s historical relationship with British royalty, as the first Scotch whisky to be granted the first Royal Warrant in 1833 by King William IV due to its superior quality.

Whether enjoying it neat, on the rocks or in a cocktail, the guests were treated to a culinary journey through an elevated, modern Malaysian menu. The 12-Year-Old expression, finished in Oloroso sherry casks, proved to be the perfect match, showcasing its ability to be versatile and delicious, no matter the serving style.

Guests were also able to experience a Royal Brackla activation right in The Chow Kit, transforming themselves into portraits of British nobility, along with a grooming station for the gentlemen.

The liquid itself breaks traditional walls that ever so often surround whisky, despite its deep roots in the history of Scotch whisky. Spending 12 years in first fill, re-fill, and re-char American oak casks, it is finished off in Oloroso casks that provide a rich profile with notes of ripe stone fruit, black cherries and toasted almonds.

The flavour journey is rounded off with a warm, elegant spice reminiscent of the deep flavour of muscovado sugar and baking spices.

The menu on this evening showcased Malaysian flavours, and Royal Brackla cocktails were specially designed to complement each distinct stage of the meal.

Starting with foie gras with sautéed pineapple and black honey, it paired perfectly with the Hazel Sunset cocktail, made with Royal Brackla 12 Year Old, enhanced with flavours of oranges and hazelnuts to open up the palate.

For the mains, the drinks moved into slightly heavier flavour profiles to complement the trio of Laksa Johor, Sabah Lobster Gulai, and Wagyu Rendang Short Rib. The Old Fashioned—a timeless classic for a reason—brought complexity to the dishes. The creamy spice of the dishes could only demand a robust, spirit-forward classic that allowed a multi-layered drinking experience that evolved with each bite.

For dessert, guests were treated to a Bubur Cha Cha Parfait. To end, the ultimate pairing for this was a dram of the Royal Brackla 12 Year Old. Acting as a great digestif, the natural flavours of the dried fruits and muscovado sugar offered a great flavour pairing to go with the earthy, coconut flavours of the parfait without overwhelming the palate.

Flavour is never understated when it comes to Tatler events, even more so when Royal Brackla is involved. Pairing “The King’s Own Whisky” with Malaysia’s own royal flavours proved that true style is all about balance, history and a perfectly executed finish.
