Four bartenders from our star-studded lineup shed light on their best fix after a night of drinking
Have you secured your tickets to Tatler Dining Malaysia’s inaugural Cocktail Festival? If you haven’t yet, what are you waiting for? We’re bringing together some of Malaysia and Singapore’s most celebrated bartenders for a boozy two-day extravaganza that shouldn’t be missed.
Our exciting lineup includes Penrose KL’s Jon Lee, Triptyk’s Angel Ng Ji, and Here & Now’s Affie Adut. All the way from the Lion City of Singapore comes Sago House’s Desiree Jane, The Dragon Chamber’s Isz Valentino, and Mama Diam’s He Xin.
Valentino, Affie, and Lee share some priceless advice when it comes to beating a headache after a night of drinking.

“Always have a proper meal before drinking, and hydrate with lots of water,” says Isz Valentino. He only experiences hangovers on occasion, but a memorable way he has tried to cure the effects is by drinking a hot toddy cocktail, a drink made with liquor and honey, lemon, herbs, and spices. While the experienced bartender has yet to try it, he has heard that drinking a Bloody Mary the morning after may help with post-alcohol symptoms.

While Affie Adut hardly finds himself immobilised with a hangover, this may be because he makes it a point to chug a bottle of mineral water after a night of drinking before heading to bed. He hasn’t tried any unusual remedies after an evening out but has heard that there are some supplements in the market that may be a good fix.

Jon Lee of Penrose, Malaysia

After a night of drinking, Jon Lee always drinks a litre of blended watermelon juice to rehydrate, regardless of whether he has a headache or not. He recalls how once, he finished a Daiquiri in the morning while still hungover: “It’s a short fix, but you’ll be tipsy again in no time,” he laughs. One hangover cure Lee doubts he’ll ever try in his lifetime, though, is going for a run after waking up.
