Imagine the satisfying clink of a Baccarat crystal stopper, followed by the heady aroma of fine-grained oak and the pure, full-bodied flavour of one of the oldest—and rarest—of Maison Martell’s finest

It is no coincidence that from the lush, chalk-and-limestone soil of the Grande Champagne terroir, a subregion of the town of Cognac known for producing high-quality eaux-de-vie, comes the Martell Centenary 1921, a cognac so rare that only 70 bottles exist in the world.

In Malaysia, a mere four bottles are made available for the most discerning of noses—each at an estimated price of RM200,000.

So, what is it that sets this liquid amber apart from the rest? Other than being the fruit borne of a savoir-faire that goes as far back as 300 years, only five demijohns of the Martell Centenary 1921 were deemed to have been aged to perfection in 1987 as they were housed in the Jean Martell cellar, where only the oldest and most exquisite of the Maison’s collection reside.

Starting from 2021, only one collection of this exceptionally limited eaux-de-vie is set to be released worldwide for up to five years. The number of bottles in each collection may vary but each will be numbered, with this year’s batch being 53, 54, 55 and 56.

Encased in a hand-crafted, wooden marquetry box decorated with intertwining vines inspired by the Maison’s legendary terroir, the Baccarat Crystal carafe is a work of art in itself; its decanter is handblown and delicately engraved, whereas its stopper features a Martell shield hand-painted in gold. With an attention to detail befitting of a centuries-old fine crystal manufacturer, the foot of the carafe also features a dazzling, crystalline bloom.

Distinguished by its warm, rich intensity and its bright aroma, the Martell Centenary 1921 is the purest representation of the Grande Champagne terroir’s powerful character—making it a sublime cognac not just because of its rarity, but also for its centuries’ old legacy and the memories it will make for those who savour it.

And that's not all, for as the cusp of the new year arrives, so too does the Maison's most magnificent: the Dame-Jeanne collection and the Zodiac collection.
