Once a quiet residential street nestled between Stadium Negara and Bukit Bintang, Jalan Sin Chew Kee is experiencing something of a renaissance

The row of colonial houses along Jalan Sin Chew Kee has transformed into a hip destination for foodies in Bukit Bintang. Here are the eight places you need to visit.

1. Pahit

For gin lovers, Pahit is the perfect hangout. A fully equipped gin bar stocking an array of the juniper-based liquor from all over the globe, Pahit's laidback and rustic vibe regularly plays host to notable bartenders from around the region to switch things up. There are even bottles of pre-mixed gin and tonics to take home. Feeling peckish? The bar also offers delicious bites from Rigatoni Beef Ragout to tater tots.

2. Hinode Bento

The latest addition to the row is Hinode Bento, which serves artisanal Japanese bentos, refreshing specialty sodas and house made desserts. Fans of rice balls will love the Shio Salmon Onigiri Bento while the Sakura Chirashi Bento will satisfy sashimi cravings. In direct contrast to the colourful bentos, the interior is minimalistic and industrial.

3. Three Years Old

Occupying the corner lot, Three Years Old is a minimalist cafe—in fact, one of the most Instagrammable in the city. Inspired by the cafe culture in Australia, its menu features granola bowls, Smoked Salmon Croque Madame, and Smoked Duck Aglio Olio. Coffee drinkers, do order the delicious iced tiramisu latte. Non-coffee drinkers can go for the Tropical Thyme, a passionfruit, yuzu and thyme sparkling drink.

4. Bōl

Bōl’s menu features a range of modernised and reimagined Peranakan dishes designed for sharing. The restaurant also has an interior that matches its gorgeous menu. Decked out in sage green and terracotta and furnished with eclectic furniture, the restaurant photographs beautifully.

Must-haves on the menu the Prawn and Crab Croquettes, Squid-Ink Assam Octopus, Rojak Tart, and Wagyu Rendang. Don’t miss its specialty cocktails, both of which use local ingredients like pandan for a Malaysian twist.

5. 8Haus

8Haus is a pork lover's haven. Think roulades to sausages. Must-try dishes include the Haus Char Siu Bao (a pork belly slider), Caramelised Ribs XO Haus’ Linguine, as well as fan favourite Nasi Lemak Pork Roulade. If you still have room left in the stomach, try the Crispy Pork Belly Sticks that comes in a variety of flavours including cumin, salted egg, spicy, and red fermented beancurd.

6. School of Animals

School of Animals is a whimsical and colourful craft beer bar. You’ll find an international selection here like Iwate Kura Craft Beer from Japan’s Iwate prefecture, Vocation Brewery from the UK, and Tuatara from New Zealand.
