Oatside is the latest pandemic baby, created by Singaporean Benedict Lim, and an exciting contender in the plant-based milk industry

Plant-based milks have taken the world by storm. What was once a niche market is now increasingly common in our favourite coffee houses and cafes. Singaporean Benedict Lim noticed this shift early in the pandemic, and leveraged on it to create Oatside, one of the first full-stack oat milk brands to originate in Asia.

Boasting a creamier and maltier taste, this full-stack food start-up is dedicated to developing an authentic farm-to-table oat milk experience. This means ridding its oat milk of any artificial flavours and focusing on sustainably sourced ingredients, including oats and beta glucans—which boosts immunity and heart health.

“We’ve worked really hard to develop a plant-based milk for Asia that doesn’t feel like a compromise on quality, taste or texture. We hope to contribute to a growing stable of plant-based products where picking the sustainable option no longer tastes of ‘doing your part’,” Lim shares.

A delicious substitute to dairy, Oatside has introduced three flavourful oat milk variants—barista blend, chocolate and chocolate hazelnut—with all variants made from Australian oats and is also halal-certified.

Its barista blend offers a smooth and creamy liquid, giving body to coffee and teas, while also creating beautiful microfoam for latte art—one that is challenging for many plant-based milks.

Chocolate lovers can try its chocolate variant, which features a dark, rich and complex blend made with 100 per cent Rainforest Alliance certified Indonesian-African cacao beans. This blend packs a chocolatey punch while eliminating the use of added flavouring.

Its chocolate hazelnut is one not to be missed. This liquid ‘gianduja’ relies on high-quality 100 per cent Rainforest Alliance certified hazelnuts from Turkey, and offers intense notes of roasted hazelnuts.

Oatside is available for purchase on Redmart and Shopee, as well as various cafes islandwide. These include Chye Seng Huat Hardware, Baker & Cook, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and PPP Coffee.
