Cobo House & Basehall Turn One Year Old

Although it’s felt like the longest year, there’s cause for celebration on both sides of the harbour as Cobo House and Basehall both hit one year of operation. At the former, chefs Ray Choi and Devon Hou are whipping up an Italian and Asian fusion menu to mark the occasion, in line with K11 Musea’s ongoing Lake Como theme until September 30. Served as a four, six, or eight-course menu (HK$680 up), they’ll be whipping up new creations that deftly combine flavours and influences from two disparate cuisines, such as the choi sum and swordfish semini pasta, Italian heirloom tomatoes with umami paste, seared Hokkaido scallop with carbonara espuma and fried conpoy, plus an intriguing dessert of fruit tomato sorbet with shiso and burrata cheese.

This chapter will culminate in an eight-hands dinner with chefs Alessandro Angelini and Luca De Berardinis from Lucale joining Choi and Hou at Cobo House. Available for three nights only from September 24 to 26, the dinner is offered as an eight-course menu at HK$2,480 per person, with each duo creating four courses each. Reserve your table here.

Meanwhile in Central, Basehall will be bringing in year two with a party themed after London’s Notting Hill summer carnival on August 28. From 6-10pm, “Makha” African Drum Dance, DJ Obeahmix, and Anisha Thai will be spinning a mix of soca, samba, calypso, baile funk, and global bass as revellers feast on exclusive food and drink offerings. Priced at HK$233 each, tickets are now available at Eventbrite.

Honey lovers will want to make a beeline to Tseung Kwan O, where new honey-forward beverage shop Buzz Stand has opened its first store. Using premium, occasionally fruit-infused Manuka honey from the 72-year-old Sugi Bee Garden in Japan’s Kumamoto prefecture, Buzz Stand’s range of refreshing drinks include everything from yuzu honey green tea and banana honey smoothie, to mocktails like the Honey Cooler (lemon-infused honey, mint, cucumber, soda water) and Honey Mule (yuzu-infused honey, ginger, grapefruit, green tea). Waffles and milk ice cream drizzled with honey can be ordered to satiate any hunger pangs, too.

During the shop’s opening, honeycombs shipped from Sugi Bee Garden will be used in live honeycomb carving demonstrations—if you’re lucky, you might even be able to taste some honey straight from the hive.
