Sustaining a gluten-free diet in Singapore has become easier over the years, with more grocers providing us with gluten-free alternatives
A gluten-free diet is one that excludes any food that contains gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. From noodles to cakes, gluten is regularly found, in our meals—especially in Asia. While consuming more natural, gluten-free foods can lead to many benefits, including better sleep and digestion, incorporating it into our diet, whether by personal choice or medical necessity, is not the easiest. Fortunately, Singapore has begun catering to gluten-free dieters in recent years, providing us with gluten-free alternatives and products—here are some places to check out.
1. Ryan's Grocery
The speciality grocer offers an assortment of gluten-free products to ensure you eat and drink well while being mindful of what you put in your body. For starters, it offers a range of gluten-free sausages such as pork Spanish chorizo, chicken Madras curry and free-range pork apple sage and rosemary and stuffed inside natural casings. And for a bit of a treat, you may even pair these with the gluten-free Estrella Galicia Sin Gluten Lager, directly imported from Spain.
Tatler tip: For Oktoberfest, Ryan's Grocery is offering a sweet deal on selected gluten- and preservative-free sausages and meats, which are sold at 10 per cent off until October 3.
