Getting its name from the glut of Asian restaurants on New York City’s 8th Street, the restaurant presents modern Asian-inspired fare.

0- R1- indoortooutdoor.jpg -The industrial grit and edgy character of the Big Apple have been lovingly translated into interior design by the creative duo — Emil and Steven — behind this venture: red brick walls interspersed with stripped concrete, raw teak tables paired with metalwork benches, and a steel awning that evokes Manhattan Bridge. Referencing the glut of Asian restaurants on NYC’s 8th Street, the name of the restaurant evinces its modern Asian-inspired fare, served small plates-style in the evening. Lunchtime hours, however, see good ol’ American sandwiches hit the table. Tap into East 8’s beverage list, a cosmopolitan blend of classic tipples and Eastern influences (think yuzu infusions), that complements the young and restless demographic that swarms in on evenings.

The hamachi, a simple combination of raw yellowtail and a light sesame and soy sauce, is trussed up with the tang of caviar. It goes great with the Tribeca, a yuzu-infused sparkling sake cocktail that fizzes with clarity and counters the mild brininess of the fish. Another favourite was the buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto, matched by the distinctive pungent creaminess of truffle mayo. Try also the Chilean sea bass, marinated in miso and wine and baked to silky perfection. For dessert, go for the banana tempura — piping hot goreng pisang updated with white chocolate cream and vanilla ice cream.
