If you were visiting Caffe B for the first time, you would think it is a modern European joint with its full height wine cellar display and warm rustic tones. Yet this establishment that boasts a “nouveau fine Italian dining and bar concept” is helmed by a Japanese chef and managed by a Japanese culinary team. When you marry fine Italian cuisine with Japanese finesse and premium fresh ingredients, you can only expect good quality food.
Caffe B’s fare is anything but pretentious, from signature dishes like the Japanese fish carpaccio served with marinated mixed garden vegetables and olive oil vinaigrette to the acqua pazza Japanese Kasago scorpion fish, live clams and mussels in a light herbed tomato broth with extra virgin olive oil, each dish is flavourful and is boosted by the freshness of the ingredients – a distinctive trait of the Japanese culture. Pastas are just as lovely. The linguine with live Boston lobster in a light tomato sauce is already a hit among the customers but it is really the squid ink tonnarelli with sea urchin in a tomato cream sauce that showcases the chef’s creative inclinations. The creamy, sweet and briny flavour from the sea urchin harmonises well with the squid ink pasta and sauce, making for a simply delectable dish.
