Embark on a spiritual journey with your peers or loved ones this Holy Week. Tatler has listed retreat spaces that will help you unwind, reflect, and approach life with a brand new perspective

For many people, the long Holy Week break serves as a time to reconnect with themselves and realign their values through a series of spiritual journeys in or out of their respective quarters. While others decide to seek tranquillity in far-flung and peaceful tourist locations, there are those who prefer to spend quality time in retreat houses like the ones we've listed below.

In case you missed it: Must-See Alluring Churches for Holy Week

1. Capuchin Retreat Centre, Tagaytay

Located in Tagaytay, the Capuchin Retreat Centre is only a short 90-minute drive away from Manila. The place provides guests with plenty of time to withdraw from the noise of everyday life in the Metro. The retreat house is a perfect venue for a spiritual getaway that helps people re-evaluate themselves through the help of resident Capuchin Franciscan friars.

Guests can expect the retreat team to facilitate unique and effective programs for self-development and administer the sacrament of reconciliation and celebrate Mass. They will also be provided with peaceful surroundings, clean and cosy private bedrooms, and delicious meals served by accommodating staff.

2. Caleruega Retreat House, Batangas

Caleruega in Batangas is not only a good place for heart-warming events such as weddings and baptisms. The place also offers retreat programs that will encourage guests to reconnect with themselves and with one another.

Visitors have the chance to bring out their most adventurous selves as the place offers vast fields of greeneries that they can trek on the way to the church perched atop the hill. They may also enjoy walking on the famed hanging bridge of Caleruega.

Tatler Trivia: Caleruega was initially set up as a venue for retreats and seminars of Dominican institutions in the Philippines. It was designed by Architect Yolanda D. Reyes, the dean of the University of Santo Tomas' College of Architecture.

3. Mount Purro Nature Reserve, Rizal

The Mount Purro in Rizal is a 36-hectare forest sanctuary sitting in the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range. It is part of the Upper Marikina Watershed near the province of Rizal. The place provides several Filipino hut accommodations and camping options for travellers who stumbled upon the area.

4. Mirador Jesuit Villa, Baguio

Baguio is not only good for its cool weather and picturesque tourist parks. Somewhere in its vast area is the Mirador Jesuit Villa where guests can spend their time in a cosy hotel-esque retreat house that serves scrumptious meals every day.

Within its vicinity are spots where you can see the majestic views of Baguio and places of worship that make every visitor's retreat experience a little more solemn.

Tatler Trivia: The Mirador Jesuit Villa does not organise its own retreat programs. The establishment encourages visitors to bring their own retreat facilitators and priests; however, if there are priest visitors in the house, they may be invited to assist confessions or preside liturgies.
