Capella Singapore Sentosa: Hotel Staycation Review With Pets
A stay at Capella Singapore in Sentosa is hands-down the best “petcation” to pamper you and your pet
One of the bright spots of being indefinitely grounded is spending quality time with our loved ones—pets included. You just have to look on social media to see that 2020 was a banner year for pet ownership in Singapore and beyond, and more establishments from cafes to hotels are warmly welcoming our furry friends.
Going on “petcations”—what staycations with pets are now called—have trended over last year and local hotels are upping the ante in terms of perks and programming. Not surprisingly, Capella Singapore offers the most pampering escape as it has long had a pet-friendly policy. With plenty of green space, a beach within walking distance and a swish suite to lounge in, there’s lots more for you and your pet to enjoy. Here’s the play by play of our stay:
Crossing the causeway to Sentosa Island truly feels like you’re getting away, which is a major advantage now that we’re limited to holidaying at home. Shrouded in mature greenery, entering Capella Singapore’s driveaway immediately puts you on vacation mode.
I arrived with my dog Oscar, a Yorkshire Terrier who loves making friends. We were warmly greeted by the doormen and I noticed there were other doggies around too. Instead of hanging out in the air-conditioned check-in area, my husband took the chance to walk Oscar around the grassy grounds across the main building (your dog will be nudging you to explore anyway even if you don’t want to!). Afterwards, there were welcome drinks all around, with the staff offering Oscar his own water in case he was thirsty from the sweltering heat.

We booked Capella Singapore’s Premier Seaview room, which is housed in the main building and a short stroll from all of the hotel’s amenities. Upon entering the room, we saw the most amazing welcome pack for our pooch: an elegant rattan daybed on top of which lay toys, treats, a cake plus a framed photo of Oscar. Of course, he also had his own bowl and allocation of mineral water to enjoy.
The room lives up to its name as its panoramic windows frame the gorgeous view of Capella’s cascading emerald pools and the azure waters of the South China Sea. Measuring a generous 77 sqm, the interiors are cleverly thought out in terms of layout and design. The entrance has a small foyer that leads to a separate living area, fitted with a table that spans the length of the window (the spot to be in case you have to do Zoom calls).
The plush bedroom has a comfortable daybed situated by the picture window—my favourite place to sit and stare at the view or dip into my book. The room also has a large bathroom with two separate sinks, a rain shower and a bathtub that overlooks a bijou balcony.
While the rooms and suites are designed for lounging all day, a stay at the Capella isn’t complete without venturing outdoors. It’s certainly made for parents and pawrents alike as there’s plenty to kids and furkids to explore. From gardens that are a picture of sprezzatura chic (with stylish sculptures gracing the verdant grounds) to three different types of swimming pools, plan to spend part of your day outside. If you must stay indoors, spend it at the Auriga Spa, widely considered one of the best spas in Singapore.
The in-resort programme has only improved since staycations became a primary way of travelling. Capella offers its fair share of activities, from cooking classes to Peranakan pattern workshops, suited to a variety of interests. The hotel also has unique experiences under the Capella Curates programme—your Capella Culturist will be happy to advise.
Food and Drink
As an urban resort, Capella does not have the same number or variety of F&B outlets that other luxury hotels in the city do. However, it does al fresco dining perfectly especially at their signature restaurant, The Knolls. The all-day restaurant has a robust menu of local and international favourites; at breakfast, dishes are served up in smaller portions so you can have your dim sum and avo toast, too.
Come sundown, Bob’s Bar is the choice spot to unwind especially if you score a sunlounger facing the sea. It's easy to while away the (happy) hours here and you're bound to get a visit from one of the Capella’s most loved residents—the peacocks. Just be warned that they're not shy in helping themselves to some peanuts on the table, it's their home after all! Note that pets are not allowed on any of the restaurant and bar premises, so if you have an anxious one, there’s always room service.
While it can be hard to peel yourself away from your bed, maximise your time at Sentosa with a sunrise or sunset stroll at Palawan Beach. Just an eight-minute walk from Capella’s pool area, it’s great to put your toes in the sand and amble back to your room or villa afterwards.
Also, if you book your stay (petcation or not) through HoteLux, you'll receive extra benefits such as a 3-course dinner at The Knolls included with the stay.
