See the Games' opening ceremony through the eyes of Team Malaysia
From July 28 - Aug 8, athletes from 72 nations in the Commonwealth will be competing in the quadrennial multi-sport event. The Malaysian contingent makes its 14th appearance, sending 104 athletes to compete in Birmingham. The Games kicked off last night with a grand opening ceremony with 30,000 spectators at the newly-refurbished Alexander Stadium, with stunning performances by Duran Duran, Black Sabbath founder Tommy Iommi and the Birmingham Royal Ballet as well as a stirring speech by activist and 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai.
The highlight of the night for Malaysians watching at home was seeing our local athletes make their way down the stadium, led by flag bearers, Aifa Azman and Bonnie Bunyau Gustin.
They also gave their followers a firsthand account of their experience at the Commonwealth Games festivities on Instagram. Take a look at some of our favourite posts.
