經過 24 年征戰，費德勒宣佈退休
費德勒台灣時間 16 日晚間，於自己的 Instagram 發文宣佈退休，表示：「許多人都知道，過去3年，我經歷了傷病和手術的挑戰。我非常努力要恢復完全的競技狀態，但我也知道我身體的能力和極限，身體最近熱切傳達給我一項訊息。我已經 41 歲了。」
「24 年來我打了超過 1500 場比賽。網球對待我比我想像的更加慷慨。但現在我必須認識到是時候該結束我的競技生涯。下週在倫敦的拉沃盃將是我的最後一場ATP賽事。」
雖然競技生涯結束了，但是費德勒也說明，「當然，我未來還會繼續打更多網球，但不會是在四大滿貫賽或是任何巡迴賽。」
第一位贏得 20 座大滿貫冠軍
