From exciting thrillers to heart-fluttering Korean dramas, here are the best new movies and shows to watch on Netflix in June
This month on Netflix, viewers can expect the return of the beloved series The Umbrella Academy while enjoying new releases such as Chris Hemsworth-led thriller Spiderhead, vampire teen drama First Kill and comedy God’s Favourite Idiot.
The streaming giant continues its investment in Korean content with the release of Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, a remake of the popular Spanish series Money Heist. Several other Korean dramas are set for release this month too.

Hustle
Adam Sandler and Queen Latifah star in the American sports film, Hustle. After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past in Spain, a basketball scout (Adam Sandler) takes it upon himself to bring the future star to the US without the team’s approval. He sets out to prove that they both have what it takes to make it to the NBA.

First Kill
The vampires are back in this series based on a short story by best-selling author Victoria “V.E.” Schwab. For teens Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Calliope (Imani Lewis), falling in love is tricky especially if one is a vampire and the other is a vampire hunter. But both are tasked by their families to make their first kill whether they like it or not.

Trees of Peace
Inspired by true events, Trees of Peace follows four women from different backgrounds as they forge an unbreakable bond while trapped and in hiding during the genocide in Rwanda.

God’s Favourite Idiot
God’s Favourite Idiot revolves around a tech support employee Clark Thompson (Ben Falcone) who falls in love with his co-worker Amily Luck (Melissa McCarthy). But at the same time, he becomes the unwitting messenger of God.

Spiderhead
Chris Hemsworth stars in this sci-fi thriller based on The New Yorker short story by George Saunders. The film is in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Hemsworth). There, inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs for commuted sentences. But there are no bars or cells and inmates are free to be themselves. Or so they thought.
When inmates, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, the penitentiary’s practice and Abnesti’s vision start to take a darker turn.

Alchemy of Souls
Alchemy of Souls is the first Korean drama to hit Netflix in June. Written by renowned fantasy screenwriters the Hong Sisters, the series follows Jang-wook (Lee Jae-wook) a nobleman who holds a secret about his birth. He meets Mu-deok (Jung So-min), a powerful sorceress whose soul is trapped in a blind woman’s body. She secretly teaches him how to fight and change his destiny.

The Umbrella Academy: Season 3
Emmy-nominated series The Umbrella Academy is back for its third season this month. After putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, the Umbrella Academy return home to the present, convinced that they have prevented the apocalypse and fixed the timeline. But soon enough, they realise that nothing is okay. The Sparrow Academy now exists. It’s up to this dysfunctional family to fix the timeline once again.

Man Vs Bee
Renowned actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson graces our screens once again in this new comedy. He plays Trevor, a lovable but bumbling father who lands a new job as a housesitter in a luxurious mansion filled with priceless artwork, classic cars and a dog called Cupcake. Everything looks easy until a bee lands on the scene, wreaking havoc. Can Trevor keep everything under control?

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area
Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is one of the highly-anticipated Netflix series this year. It’s a remake of the popular Spanish drama La Casa de Papel or Money Heist. In this Korean adaptation, the Professor (Yoo Ji-tae) schemes an ambitious heist with a massive payout.
To carry out his plan, he recruits the best of the best who go by city names as their code names such as Tokyo (Jeon Jong-seo), Berlin (Park Hae-soo) and Rio (Lee Hyun-woo). The mastermind’s plan goes smoothly until they face an unexpected situation due to the hostages they take.

Cafe Minamdang

Former criminal profiler Nam Han-joon (Seo In-guk) now works as a fraudster. He runs the fortune teller shop Minamdang and disguises himself as a fortune teller. Thanks to his attractive appearance and talking skills, he’s able to scam a lot of customers. But because of his background, he also becomes involved in their cases and helps solve them.
