With new hits such as Moonshine and Ghost Doctor as well as older films like The Supect, there is certainly no shortage of new Korean content for you to catch in January on Viu

2021 brought with it a slew of amazing Korean dramas such as Squid Game, Vincenzo, Move to Heaven and more. 

However, as bid farewell to 2021, we also welcome all the new shows that we will get to enjoy in the upcoming year. 

From new and exciting releases such as Ghost Doctor to brand new shows that have only just launched and are gearing up for new episodes in the year ahead, there’s something for everyone.

1. Ghost Doctor

In this fantasy medical drama, Rain stars as a talented but arrogant doctor who falls into a coma. When the doctor’s spirit leaves his body and possesses a new, slightly untalented resident doctor, Go Seung-tak, a new friendship ensues. 

This kinship, which is based on a clash of personalities and skills, promises a hilarious series that will keep you hooked till the end. 

The series also stars Uee, Kim Bum and Son Na-eun.

Premieres: January 3, 2022

2. Through The Darkness

If you love crime dramas, Through The Darkness is perfect for you. 

The show is based on a non-fiction book that was co-written by Korea’s first criminal profiler, Kwon Il-yon.

It tells the story of a time when criminal profiling was still a new concept and stars Kim Nam-gil as Song Ha-young, a criminal profiler. Kim investigates murder cases and attempts to understand their psyche in this exciting show.

Premieres: January 14, 2022

3. Moonshine

Yoo Seung-ho and Hyeri are obvious South Korean fan favourites and they now star in Moonshine, a recently released drama that is set during a time of strict alcohol prohibition.

In the historical drama, viewers watch as Nam Young, an enforcement officer whose job is to prevent the sale of alcohol, and Kang Ro-seo, the sole breadwinner of a debt-ridden family who sells alcohol, have their worlds collide. 

What ensues is a beautiful romance that will easily have you swooning.

4. Don’t Go Too Far

If you’re hoping to kick the new year off with more crime action shows, you have to check out Don’t Go Too Far, a movie that tells the story of three sons and a daughter who are trying to split their late father’s inheritance of two billion won.

As they are trying to split the assets, a mysterious kidnapper calls asking for a two billion won ransom. What ensues is utter chaos which is both entertaining and thrilling.

Though this film came out earlier in 2021, it is only just being released on Viu for a wider audience so if you have yet to catch it, now’s your chance.

5. The Suspect

The Suspect may be an older Korean movie but it is certainly one worth watching as it stars famous actor Gong Yoo. It is also the first time that it is appearing on Viu for a wider audience.

The Suspect is a movie about a North Korean spy who has defected to South Korea. Unfortunately, he is also being framed as a prime suspect in a thrilling murder case.

Seeking revenge and the truth, viewers follow him on his quest for answers.
