A total of 11 films will be shown from May 25 to June 7 across three cinemas in Hong Kong. “The selection of films offers a voyage through music, via the medium of both documentaries and feature films,” says Jean-Sébastien Attié, executive director of Alliance Française, the organiser of the festival.

1. Why Versailles? (2022)
Why Versailles? explores what made Versailles the epicentre of the French music scene. In a blend of fiction and documentary, director March Collin looks for the answers.
Jean-Sébastien Attié (JSA): I was born and grew up near Versailles myself, and experienced the birth of this wave, now known as the French touch. This period saw a whirlwind of creativity, a breeding ground for so many bands that later came to worldwide fame. Making a film that examines the birth of this movement was a great idea and helps us understand why it specifically happened in Versailles, normally a very quiet and “bourgeois” city. It also allows us to look back on those effervescent years with such pleasure. Marc Collin will be present online for a live introduction during the first screening of his film on May 25.
Screening schedule: May 25, June 2 and June 7
