Halloween is not just about spooky costumes and candy; sometimes all you need is one cosy sofa, a television screen, and these child-friendly horror movies to enjoy the whole season

Once a year, there is a season when horror flicks suddenly become more interesting to watch than any ordinary day. On Halloween, everyone enjoys hearing and witnessing stories about dark entities, ghouls, and even horrifying crimes. But lest we need reminding, Halloween celebration is for children too. 

This is why for this article, we've collated some of the spookiest yet equally entertaining kid's movies that everyone can enjoy.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is an American stop-motion movie helmed by Henry Selick. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloweentown who has had enough of his annual routine of frightening people in the real world. This leads him to make a catastrophic Christmas season; first, he kidnaps beloved Santa Claus and takes over Christmastown. 

Will his misadventure put an end to the year's most joyful season?

Tatler Trivia: Tim Burton was not able to direct The Nightmare Before Christmas because of his commitment to The Batman Returns, the 1992 film starring Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer. 

2. Casper

A peaceful ghost named Casper haunts the mansion of Maine; when specialist James Harvey together with his teenage daughter Kat arrives in the place, the friendly spirit could not help but fall in love with the latter. Together, the two of them bond and develop a strong friendship.

3. Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo

Everybody's favourite ghost-haunting and mystery-solving giant pooch has a Halloween film that every child and child at heart will surely enjoy. In Happy Halloween, Scooby Doo, the gang teamed up with Bill Nye and Elvira to defeat an army of monstrous pumpkins. 

4. Monsters, Inc

It's never too late to re-watch Monsters Inc, the classic movie follows the misadventures of the blue-furred giant James P Sullivan and one-eyed Mike Wazowski. Together, they form a bond with "Boo", a tiny girl who suddenly finds herself lost in a place where no human has been to before.

5. Spirited Away

Ten-year-old Chihiro and her parents are lost in an abandoned theme park where different sorts of spirits lurk. While traversing the place, Chihiro meets mysterious Haku who reveals that the park is actually a resort for supernatural entities who need a break from their time in the Earthly realm.

6. Monster House

Three friends are bound to discover one horrifying secret that their neighbour, Nebbercracker, hide. The trio discovers that at night, while everyone is not watching, Nebbercracker's house moves and plagues anybody who passes by.

What could be hiding inside Nebbercracker's house? Will the gang be able to solve its mysteries?

7. Corpse Bride

Victor and Victoria's marriage has been arranged by their respective families. While Victor prepares his wedding vows in the woods, he suddenly marries the skeleton-like Emily who eagerly takes him to the land of the dead.

The groom-to-be needs to return back to the realm of the living before Victoria weds a villainous Barkis Bittern. 

8. Hotel Transylvania

There is a place on Earth where monsters can relax and spend time peacefully with their friends and loved ones but everything changes when one human, Johnny, suddenly stumbles into the place and develops strong feelings for Mavis, Count Dracula's beloved daughter. 

Will their love put an end to the decades-long war between humans and monsters?

9. Coco

Venture into the underworld with Miguel, a young, energetic, boy who seeks to become an accomplished musician. Desperate to make his dreams come true, Miguel and his dog embark on an extraordinary journey to unravel the real history of their family.
