Sometimes, a series' plot is too good not to be localised or translated to other languages. In this write-up, we list the Filipino versions of everyone's beloved K-Dramas!

It is not uncommon for TV series to be localised in other countries or be translated into other languages. Generally, people love watching shows with stars that speak their mother tongue. In many regions, movies or series with unique and iconic plots are even dubbed to reach a wider variety of audiences. However, some countries have taken this one step further and decided to create their own versions.

These past few days, netizens started to rave about the promotional poster of The Broken Marriage Vow, the Filipino version of the hit Korean series The World of The Married. Designed by artist Justin Besana, the image depicts a shattered reflection of actress Jodi Santa Maria on a mirror with broken pieces that reveal other characters’ faces.

1. The World of The Married

Its stars, Kim Hee-ae, Park Hae-joon, and Han So-hee have all delivered outstanding performances that made everybody's fists clench out of anger. It tells a story of a married couple whose betrayal of one another leads to a whirlwind of grief, revenge, and healing.

The series is one of the highest-rated K-Dramas in cable television history. It has also received critical acclaim for its screenplay, direction and acting performances.

Its Filipino adaptation, The Broken Marriage Vow has been trending among K-Drama lovers in the country these past few months. Helmed by Concepcion "Connie" S.A. Macatuno and Andoy Ranay, the series perfectly captures and puts into Filipino perspective the things that fans love about its South Korean version.

The localised series stars PMPC awardee Jodi Santa Maria, 2011 Gawad Tanglaw for Television Best Actor Zanjoe Marudo, and Sue Ramirez who is known for her roles in Cuddle Weather and Dead Kids

2. Descendants of the Sun

Descendants of The Sun is a highly-regarded 2016 TV series that revolves around Captain Yoo Si-jin a.k.a. 'Big Boss' (Song Joong-ki), the leader of a fictional elite special forces team of the 707th Special Mission Battalion in South Korea and Haesung Hospital Doctor Kang Mo-yeon (Song Hye-kyo), who were both deployed to Uruk for their respective assignments. As the story progresses, Captain Yoo and Doctor Kang find themselves intertwined by a series of mishaps in the island.

The series was named "the most popular show of the year" by the prestigious Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation (KBS); it has also bagged the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards Grand Prize in 2016.

3. My Love from the Star

My Love From The Star has everything a K-Drama fan could ever ask for: comedy, drama, and heart-pounding romantic scenes. The story follows human-looking alien Do Min-joon (Kim Soo-hyun) who has been trapped on Earth for decades. On his last few months in the planet, Min-joon meets Cheon Song-yi (Jun Ji-hyun), a problematic actress with a troubled past. Together, the two discover more about themselves and each other; however, problems begin to rise when Song-yi's personal life begins to concern Min-joon.

Its Filipino version stars actress and singer Jennylyn Mercado (as Cheon Song-yi) together with Spanish Filipino actor Gil Cuervo (as Do Min-joon). The localised version has remained loyal to the original plot of the series. In the video above, Mercado and Cuervo recreated the iconic 'Elevator Scene' from the South Korean version of the show.

4. Full House

Full House is probably one of the first K-Dramas that fans around Southeast Asia fell in love with first. Its story circles around Han Ji-eun (Song Hye-kyo), an aspiring scriptwriter who lives in "Full House" built by her late father. As the plot goes, her two best friends make her believe she had won a free vacation. While away, her friends sold the house to a young and famous actor Young-jae (Rain).

In 2009, the localised version of Full House was aired on Philippine televisions. Directed by Mark A. Reyes, the series stars model and actor Richard Gutierrez (as Young-jae) and philanthropist, socialite, and Sorsogon first lady Heart Evangilista (as Han Ji-eun).

On November 21, 2021, Dreamscape Entertainment announced that the much-awaited Philippine adaptation of the show will star Lovi Poe as the wife and Piolo Pascual as the husband. This marks Pascual and Poe's first on screen team up.
