Still haven’t planned out Mother’s Day? Here are some ideas to elevate the day and to make it extra special for mum

With Mother’s Day just two days away now, it’s about time to start planning how you will spend the day with mum if you haven’t already. Now that our Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted, there is even more pressure to do something that is really special and memorable.

While a nice lunch or dinner is a great idea and certainly one that will be appreciated, why not go a step further this year by treating her to an experience that she will remember forever?

From spending a session in flotation pods to indulging in afternoon teas, here’s how you can celebrate Mother’s Day in Singapore this year.

1. Skip lunch and go for high tea instead

If you are planning to celebrate Mother’s Day by taking your mum out for a meal, skip the traditional lunches or dinners and book a high tea for the most important woman in your life.

From themed tea sets that feature sandwiches, sliders and delectable kuehs to those that come with a refreshing glass of prosecco, there’s something for everyone out there.

After all, sipping tea and enjoying cakes and savouries over a languid afternoon is one of the most relaxing and pleasant ways to spend a Sunday—a luxury that most mothers likely do not get often.

2. Book a floatation pod for some peace and quiet

Mums tend to live pretty hectic lives. From tending to their kids to going to work and managing the household, there is never a shortage of things to do.

This Mother’s Day, give your mum her much deserved rest by booking her a session at a flotation pod. Floatation therapy is a scientifically proven method for reducing stress, speeding up the recovery of muscle aches and even has the potential to help reset your brain.

The way it works is pretty simple. Guests will be invited to spend an hour in a private float pod that will create a womb-like cocoon around them using salted water at around 34.5 degrees Celsius.

Inside, mum will be free from mental stimulation and physical strain and will be able to enter a meditative state. This can reduce stress and anxiety, as well as boost mental clarity and focus.

Essentially, this experience will ensure that your mum has the most memorable and relaxing Mother’s Day yet.

3. Take mum for a sound bath

If you’re looking for a way to pamper mum while also spending time as a family, why not book mum in for a sound bath session this weekend?

She will get to enjoy an hour-long meditative sound bath, which is an experience where gongs, singing bowls, chimes, rattles, tuning forks and even the human voice are used to immerse guests in sound waves. Mum will get to lie on a hammock during this experience and truly unwind.

Meanwhile, kids (and another adult if you wish) can participate in an arts and crafts session that mum can join after her sound bath.

4. Sip champagne while watching a movie

Now that the Covid-19 situation is stabilising around the world, we can once again look forward to blockbuster films returning to the cinema and currently, there are a lot of amazing ones to watch.

If mum is a fan of Marvel movies, she will love to catch Benedict Cumberbatch in his new film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If she is a fan of dramas, she will certainly fall in love with the highly anticipated film, Downton Abbey: A New Era which picks up from where the famous series ends. There are also a multitude of other films such as Boiling Point, The Innocents and Tampopo that you can catch with her.

However, don’t just book ordinary tickets to see these movies. Instead, make it a special experience by booking tickets at The Projector, an indie cinema. You can then order a bottle of champagne or wine as well as a delicious meal and enjoy it with her while watching the movie.

5. Work your frustrations out by smashing things

Life can be incredibly frustrating and mums probably feel it the most with all the intricacies of life. This May, why not suit up and take her to the Fragment Room?

It is a rage room where guests are invited to choose their weapon and freely smash plates, glasses, vases, electronics and more—all while safely protected in padded clothing.

If your mum is stressed out, book a session and head on down with the family.

6. Create a bouquet of flowers with her instead of gifting one

Flowers are one of the most common gifts that mothers receive on Mother’s Day. If your mum is more on the crafty side, why not spend the weekend at a floral workshop with her?

At the workshop, participants can make a bouquet or table arrangement with their favourite blooms and accessories. You can even make a day out of it and go for a meal after at some of the many cafes along Jalan Besar Road.
