Majulah Singapura. With National Day around the corner, Singapore is full of exciting events, light-ups, exhibitions and more. Here are the ones worth your time

It is that time of the year again as we are finally entering Singapore’s birthday month.

This August, as the nation gears up to celebrate its 57th birthday, we are in for a treat with city-wide firework displays, national monuments lit up, special exhibitions and so much more. 

With so much to do, we’ve whittled down the list to give you our suggestions on the best things to do around the island this month.

1. Watch the NDP Fireworks and Red Lions Freefall

What: After three years of cancelled events, postponed parades and disruptions, our annual National Day Parade is back in all its glory.

While our parade is once again going to see full grandstands, Singapore will continue to engage and involve the whole of Singapore with fireworks set to go off around the island, the Red Lions performing their iconic freefall jumps, carnivals and more.

2. Attend a National Day Light Up

What: For the third year running, Singapore’s National Heritage Board will be lighting up six historical and culturally significant landmarks around the island in the National Flag colours of red and white this month. 

Where: National Museum of Singapore, Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, Central Fire Station, The Cathay, National Design Centre and Stamford Arts Centre

3. Singapore Night Festival

What: The Singapore Night Festival is back to wow festival-goers with a new approach that revolves around the theme “Rebirth”. Festival-goers can expect to be mesmerised by projection mappings, light art installations, food and more.

4. ArtScience Museum's Mental: Colours of Wellbeing

What: As Singapore pushes ahead with prioritising mental health, the ArtScience museum has launched 20 interactive exhibits and large-scale installations by international artists, makers, scientists and designers that confront societal biases and stereotypes about mental health.

5. Dim Sum Dollies Still Steam

What: Singapore’s favourite trio are back to celebrate 20 years of the Dim Sum Dollies. This hilarious show will see the Dollies exploring female issues as well as discussing women in politics.

6. The Singapore Vegan Festival

What: As Singapore moves towards healthier and more sustainable ways of eating, the Singapore Vegan Festival (SVF) is back for its fourth edition. SVF 2022 brings new, exciting activities for families including award-winning chef masterclasses, expert panel discussions, interactive workshops, vegan markets and more

7. National Gallery Singapore’s Nothing is Forever: Rethinking Sculpture in Singapore Exhibition

What: National Gallery Singapore has launched a new exhibition entitled Nothing is Forever: Rethinking Sculpture in Singapore. The exhibition is set to take visitors on an intriguing journey of how sculpture, so prevalent in our local urban landscape, has helped shape art and even Singapore society as we know it today.

8. Bunga Citra Lestari's Blossom Intimate Concert

What: Indonesian singer Bunga Citra Lestari will be making her debut in Singapore this August in a two-night extravaganza, at Resorts World Ballroom. In a performance dedicated to her fans, Bunga will be showcasing her creative journey as a versatile musician over the last two decades and much more

9. ArtScience Museum's We Live in an Ocean of Air Installation

What: This month, ArtScience Museum will continue to hold its latest virtual reality exhibition, We Live in an Ocean of Air. The installation is an immersive multi-sensory art installation created by Marshmallow Laser Feast, one of the world’s leading experiential art collectives.

It highlights the symbiotic relationship between animals, plants, and humans and allows us to confront our ecosystems in a unique and immersive way.
