The much-anticipated annual beauty pageant has landed once again in our sunny island and these eight finalists are gearing up to bring the heat at the Singapore finals for a coveted chance to compete at the Miss Universe 2021 that will be held in Israel

The wait is over for all beauty pageant fans out there as the crowning of the next Miss Universe Singapore is finally drawing near and it will be Singapore’s first digital Miss Universe competition to be held in a livestream event on September 17, 2021 as part of virtual fashion festival The Front Row.

In the lead-up to the Singapore finals, the top eight finalists have gone through a rigorous selection process which involved a series of training for the competition and modelling for fashion films and photoshoots across a myriad of Singapore locales, and you can certainly expect a showcase that is nothing short of stellar by this group of finalists.

At the end of the day, one of these finalists will have the privilege of donning the stunning sustainable crown—known as The Better Crown—which was designed by veteran bespoke jewellery designer Marilyn Tan of Marilyn Tan Jewellery to herald a new way onward into the future, where the fusion of technology and beauty seeks to empower and inspire the next generation in this era of sustainable and conscious fashion.

The crown’s design took inspiration from traditional Peranakan jewellery and the 33.41 carat crown is sure to weigh any wearer’s head down with its 677 diamond pieces and 92.3g silver weight. It also appositely reflects the Singapore ideals—with each star on the crown representing the five virtues of the Singapore flag—and its embodiment of resilience in the stylised waves at the base of the crown.

It also takes into account the move into sustainable jewellery with the crown being handcrafted by The Better Diamond with lab-grown diamonds, which highlights the country's forward-thinking approach to ethical jewellery while still keeping traditional craftsmanship alive.

“Made in Singapore by Singaporeans, The Better Crown is in line with the competition’s focus on Singaporean creativity, culture and sustainability,” said Valerie Lim, National Director of Miss Universe Singapore. “We focus on building ties through collaboration for the greater good, and as a platform that allows women to spread awareness of causes that they hold close to their hearts, we want to encourage positive change as an organisation too.”

Led by Lim along with creative fashion director Daniel Boey, the competition will feature photoshoots and fashion films showcasing Singapore design labels—like Max Tan, Tria The Label and Design Orchard—and cultural monuments such as Raffles Hotel, The Intan and Genting Dream.

Like previous years, viewers can expect to see competition rounds that include a swim wear showcase, a evening wear showcase and a Q&A segment. This year’s panel of judges include Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes, Miss Universe Japan 2008 Hiroko Mima and national director of Miss Universe Brazil, Winston Ling.

Without further ado, let’s get to know the finalists in the running to become the next Miss Universe Singapore who will then go on to represent the country at the international finals in Eilat, Israel this December.
