It was a big night for BTS—winning all four Daesangs (grand prize) for the third year in a row in addition to five other awards

Fresh off making history as the first Asian artist to win Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards, BTS repeated the monumental feat locally at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2021 when they swept nine awards including all of the four Daesangs (grand prize).

The septet also achieved a Daesang all-kill for the third year in a row. They are also the most awarded artist in MAMA history as well as the biggest winner of the 2021 edition. Outside of MAMA, the group boasts the most Daesangs in history with 63.

BTS scooped Song of the Year for Butter, Album of the Year for BE, Worldwide Icon of the Year (the first and winner since the award was introduced in 2018) and Artist of the Year which they’ve won since 2016.

In addition to the Daesangs, the Grammy-nominated superstars also bagged Best Group (Male), Best Dance Performance (Male Group), Best Music Video for Butter, TikTok Favourite Moment and Worldwide Fan’s Choice Top 10.

The members were not in attendance as they are currently on their break but gave their thanks in a pre-recorded speech. Vocalist Jin thanked their fans, ARMY for the support “We were honoured with a precious award at 2021 MAMA.”

Leader RM continued, “For all those who had difficult times this year, we tried new things in making music and worked hard to share strength and comfort. Thank you for empathising with our heartfelt music and enjoying it with us.”

Vocalist Jimin added, “We will share this award with all those who worked hard to make great music and performances with us. And most of all, we think this is an award given to both us and ARMY, who have shown so much love for our music.”

Rapper and main dancer J-hope hopes that “we can all believe that hope is on its way, little by little. We will work harder so that our music can be your peace of mind and comfort in these times.” Vocalist V promised to make more music and performances while rapper Suga hopes to have a happy end of the year.

Main vocalist Jungkook ends their speech with thanks, “There's only a little bit of 2021 left, please send it together with BTS’ music.”
