Aside from the cooling weather, little has changed in terms of travel restrictions since April, when Black Sheep Restaurants and Tatler collaborated on Primavera Ad Amalfi, a pop-up in Tai Kwun's Magistracy building that whisked visitors away to the sunny climes of Italy's Amalfi Coast. With Hong Kong's collective wanderlust having only grown in proportion since then, the two brands are once again transforming the Magistracy into a seasonal European destination this winter.
From November 29 to December 19, 2021, Chalet des Alpes brings a very Alpine winter to the heart of Central. Modelled on iconic skiing destinations like St. Moritz and Gstaad, the pop-up reimagines the interior of the Magistracy with cobblestoned streets, rustic wooden cabins, and a light dusting of snow—all the better to kindle an acute sense of warmth, hygge, and nostalgia for bygone Christmas jaunts to the snowy streets of Europe.
After a day spent traversing Central's imaginary ski runs, guests will find respite from the winter winds at the après-ski bar with a warm egg nog or a fortifying pre-dinner G&T from Monkey 47 in hand. Once warmed up, guests are led deeper into the chalet for a set dinner of traditional Alpine delicacies. Tuck into a traditional raclette with charcuterie and crudités, Alpine cheese and Schnapps fondue, beef stroganoff with mushrooms and shaved black truffles and, to finish, a chestnut pear Swiss cake roll with chestnut buttercream and confit, and a rich dark chocolate fondue served with fruits and marshmallows for dipping.
An expertly curated list of French and Swiss wines is available by the glass to aid with the merry-making. Adding to the atmosphere are exclusive moments scattered throughout the space by Hublot, creating a sense of discovery around every corner. The Swiss watchmaker, which was first founded in Geneva, has been a household name in every Swiss chalet and household ever since its first timepiece rolled off the production line some 41 years ago.
Linger a bit longer in this winter wonderland by delving into the intricacies of celebratory spirits at a secret eight-seat bar with Pernod Ricard. Whether its learning about the concept of dosage over a Perrier-Jouët champagne tasting flight, or exploring ghost distilleries with Secret Speyside, an expert-led masterclass at Chalet des Alpes will have you imbibing intelligently this festive season. Bookings are also open to small groups looking for an interlude to their evening or an after-work activity to bring in a little spirit of the season.
The Tatler x Black Sheep Restaurants Chalet des Alpes will take place from November 29, 2021 to December 19, 2021 at Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Culture. Find out more information and register here.
