Cover Chronomaster Open in rose gold with blue rubber strap

The Chronomaster Open is endowed with the new and improved El Primero chronograph movement

The first thing to know about the new Chronomaster Open is that it is powered with the automatic El Primero 3604 that beats at 1/10th of a second, a modified version of the 3600 which won the best chronograph prize at GPHG 2021. Endowed with a new strength and efficiency, it is only fitting that the vessel that contains it highlights complementary improvements.

Introduced in 2003, the Chronomaster Open was designed to offer a tantalising peek into the innovative El Primero movement on the dial itself, thanks to a cutout in place of the sub-dial at 9 o'clock. The only downside is that this method only allows two different coloured sub-dials instead of the usual three.

The new Chronomaster Open improved on the design by retaining all three counter colours. This is achieved with the use of hesalite crystal at 9 o'clock with readable digits yet transparent enough to view the silicon escape wheel. The opening eschews the previous applied "frame" for circular openings with chamfered edges.

The sapphire caseback is just as intriguing, revealing the open base plate and bridges as well as the star-shaped winding rotor delivers a power reserve of 60 hours.

The Chronomaster Open is available in steel with black or white dial as well as rose gold with white dial and blue rubber strap. There is also a boutique-exclusive in steel with blue dial. Previously available as a 41mm, the case diameter has been reduced to 39.5mm for a more universal appeal.
