Universal Geneve embraces the new era, starting with a website in anticipation of its relaunch in 2026

Dormant for many years, Universal Genève is on the brink of a major comeback

Universal Genève was purchased by Partners Group and CVC Capital, the owners of Breitling, in 2023. Since then, connoisseurs and collectors have been eagerly anticipating its revival. Today, the watch brand, founded in 1894 in Le Locle, Switzerland, launches its first website and social media channels, signaling that a return to active duty is imminent.

The website (www.universalgeneve.com) will post the latest updates on the brand as it counts down to its first new releases in 2026. The website will also host UG Magazine, showcasing a diverse range of brand stories, including its illustrious history and an exclusive look behind the scenes of its revival.

Once one of the most prolifically innovative Swiss watch manufactures, Universal Genève is poised to reclaim its horological crown under the stewardship of CEO Georges Kern and managing director Gregory Bruttin. Among the many Universal Genève milestones is Calibre 66, which at 2.5mm in height, was the thinnest automatic movement from 1966 until 1978.

Some of its most renowned watch models include the Polerouter, the first major design by Gerald Genta and created to commemorate the historic SAS Copenhagen-LA flight over the North Pole. Beloved for its elegant design, the watch featured anti-magnetic properties and a slim movement with a micro-rotor. The Polerouter celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

Its sporty Compax range was very popular during the 1960s, and included the Tri-Compax, one of the earliest wristwatches to boast multiple complications such as the chronograph and complete calendar. Collectors' favourites of the series were named after their famous owners, such as Finnish model Nina Rindt and Eric Clapton.

The website also showcases the artworks of artist Constantin Prozorov, which bring to life the rich history and elegant design of Universal Genève. “There is a lot to look forward to, and this is just the start of a significant journey,” said Kern. We can't wait.
