Under Breitling, the historic Universal Geneve is set to make a comeback

Founded in 1894, Universal Geneve is known for its innovative timepieces, including early 20th century jewellery watches for men and women, but particularly for its Tri-Compax (chronograph with full calendar) movement in the 1950s. In 1989, it was acquired by Hong Kong-based Stelux Group.

Breitling returned Universal Geneve's ownership to Switzerland with the recent purchase, with plans to revive it to its former glory. “Rebuilding a brand with such a rich narrative is not a quick endeavour,” said Breitling CEO Georges Kern. “It is a meticulous labour of love that we anticipate will unfold over the coming years. A dedicated team will be brought on board to allow Breitling and Universal Genève to operate as separate maisons.”

He added: “This revival is a dream turned into a vision. It’s a process we are embarking on with the utmost respect and dedication to see Universal Genève restored to its rightful place in watchmaking.”
