The spectacular reunion

Since 2021, the collaboration between Richard Mille and Ferrari has made waves with the ultra-thin RM UP-01 Ultraflat Ferrari. Building on that remarkable success, their latest creation reimagines one of Richard Mille’s most intricate designs: a split-second tourbillon chronograph, showcasing the bold creative fusion between Maranello and Les Breuleux.

The RM 43-01 limited edition is available in two variations: 75 pieces in a grade 5 titanium case, treated with a sandblasting and polishing process, paired with a Carbon TPT® strap; and another 75 pieces entirely in Carbon TPT®—a lightweight, thin, and incredibly durable composite material, exclusively used by Richard Mille in watchmaking. “We created two cases to embody two distinct personalities: the refined ‘gentleman of speed’ spirit for the titanium case, and the more powerful, captivating style of the carbon version,” explained Julien Boillat, Technical Director of the case at Richard Mille.

Centro Stile Ferrari was instrumental in designing key elements of the watch, from the overall aesthetic to finer details such as the crown, hands, and strap, which echo the Purosangue’s seat motif, all unmistakably Ferrari-inspired. A space intentionally left open during the movement’s development is now occupied by a titanium plate, laser-engraved with the Prancing Horse logo, its shape inspired by the 499P’s rear wing.

The most complex and enduring masterpiece

For both Richard Mille and Ferrari, the split-second tourbillon chronograph represents the perfect fusion of two of the most intricate and revered complications in watchmaking: the split-second tourbillon. The RM43-01 movement was crafted from the ground up, taking three years to develop. Lightweight yet exceptionally robust, its intricate design features a highly skeletonized grade 5 titanium baseplate, supported by bridges made of both titanium and Carbon TPT®. A true paragon of performance, it boasts a 70-hour power reserve, displayed at 2 o’clock on the 5N PVD titanium dial. The strength of this power reserve is also showcased on the second dial through the torque indicator.

“Our work as movement manufacturers is becoming increasingly scientific, allowing us to create components that are more durable and perform better,” explains Salvador Arbona, Richard Mille’s Technical Director of Movements. From the microscopic components to the choice of materials, every aspect of the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari is approached from a performance-driven perspective, much like any Ferrari. As a result, every design decision influences the integrity and technical capabilities of each component. Shock tests, simulations, and rigorous research guarantee that each part meets Richard Mille’s exacting standards.
