These Hamilton watches are more than a prop in some of Hollywood’s most critically lauded films

With over 500 movies under its belt, Hamilton continues to shine as the go-to watch brand in Hollywood. It made its big screen debut in Marlene Dietrich’s Shanghai Express in 1932 and has since appeared in numerous blockbusters including Men in Black, Ocean’s Eleven, Die Hard, and 2001: A Space Odyssey

Its involvement in movie productions ranges from providing authentic period-specific timepieces from its archive to creating custom watches and props. For instance, in Dune: Part Two, an Oscar 2025 Best Picture nominee, Hamilton was tasked with making the Desert Watch for the Fremen people.

This movie prop inspired two watches available for the public: the Ventura XXL Bright and Ventura Edge. The former has a button that activates the glowing blue lines of the "Desert Watch" dial design, while the latter has a digital display in blue, mimicking the colour of the Fremens’ eyes.

One of the most well-known Hamilton in movie history is “the Murph” watch from Interstellar. In the movie NASA astronaut Cooper gave a watch to his daughter, named Murph, before leaving on a mission to the fifth dimension. He sends a message using Morse code containing quantum data through the seconds hand of her watch. When she finally works out the formula that will save humanity, Murph shouts out “Eureka!”.

Hamilton created the Khaki Field Murph to celebrate its appearance in the blockbuster, which won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The 42mm stainless steel watch is an exact replica of the one that appeared in the movie except that it features a seconds hand with the word “Eureka” printed in lacquer in Morse code.
