The Academy Museum Gala reinforces Rolex’s hand as a guardian of horological heritage and the cinematic arts
Cinema has its superstars, and so does horology, and on the night of the Academy Museum Gala, the fates align for their meeting. Presented by Rolex, this annual benefit for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a highly anticipated date on Hollywood’s calendar that draws film luminaries worldwide.
The esteemed watchmaker is no stranger to accompanying such talents and artists; in fact, its firm place in the world of moving pictures is evidenced by the handsome timepieces that have graced the wrists of legends and appeared in multiple masterpieces on screen. The fourth annual Academy Museum Gala, held in October, is an added testament to the company’s intangible, long-term support of the cinematic arts.

Co-chaired by Dr Eric Esrailian, Salma Hayek Pinault, Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria and Tyler Perry, this year’s gala feted three prominent figures of modern Hollywood. Actor Paul Mescal received the Vantage Award as an emerging artist; veteran star Rita Moreno was bestowed the Icon Award in recognition of her illustrious career’s global and cultural impact; and Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino accepted the Luminary Award for his groundbreaking contributions to film.
While a star-studded event such as this is sure to generate a buzz, the impact it has on the community extends beyond the glamour of its red carpet and awards. Funds are raised to support exhibitions, education initiatives and public programming of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Museum, which opened in Los Angeles in September 2021. As a founding supporter and the official watch of the museum, Rolex echoes the promotion of artistic excellence and transmission of cinematic heritage that is central to its Perpetual Arts Initiative.
