She volunteers with the youth wing of the People’s Action Party, dabbles in interior design and has an avid love of music. With her multifaceted interests, it is easy to forget that Aiyana Chua is young and sweet, only seventeen

“I don’t really have free time,” proclaims Aiyana Chua, the daughter of doctors Kevin and Iroshini Chua. Currently in the final year of her International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Hwa Chong International School, Chua spends most of her time “studying and attending classes”.

However, despite her hectic schedule, she devotes time to community service. Since the beginning of 2023, Chua has been actively volunteering with Young PAP, the youth wing of the People’s Action Party (PAP), which seeks to nurture new blood and young minds into its leadership. “I wanted to be more of service to the people by giving back and contributing to society,” Chua shares.

Never once forgetting her privilege and position in life, the former Raffles Girls’ Primary School student hopes to create a positive impact in the lives of others. “I help the PAP whenever there is a community service event. And it is this sense of giving back [to the community] that my parents raised me with.”

Beyond her public service, Chua is also an avid musician, and a budding interior designer, who helped with the interior design of her family home during a major renovation two years ago.

When asked about the challenges she faced working on such a massive undertaking, Chua says, “The most challenging part about interior design is envisioning the space before it’s even completed. For example, during the renovation, I had almost chosen a different tile— one with a more yellow undertone. This would have made the space feel a lot older and smaller as opposed to a brighter white tile.”

Chua’s parents have always believed in celebrating their children’s creative pursuits whatever form they take—and she has always been constantly surrounded by music since young. “My love for music was fostered by my father and brother. They were both in the choir and in our church worship team, which meant that we would frequently sing together at home,” she shares.

It was her father, who bought Chua her first guitar, cementing her love for music. “If I had to choose between music or interior design, it would definitely be music. I hope to one day share my music with the world,” Chua says.

Her story exemplifies the beautiful synthesis of passion, talent, and a profound sense of responsibility. While the future is no doubt bright for this promising young woman, we hope to listen to her music on the airwaves one day.
